WHISTLEBLOWER WEB PORTAL IN RUSSIAN


The IBU External Review Commission investigating allegations of past wrongdoing within the IBU operates a confidential whistleblower web portal to assist with its investigation. That portal was originally available in English and German only, but is now also available in Russian. The Commission encourages anyone who has any information relevant to its investigations or to integrity in biathlon more generally to visit the whistleblower system at the following link: https://www.bkms-system.com/ibuerc

IN MEMORIAM JOHN LEANING, CANADA


The IBU mourns the loss of John Leaning ("Spud") who died peacefully after a long illness on 03 August 2019, aged 82. John Leaning was a member of the Development Committee in the IBU from its foundation until 1998. In 1993 Leaning was the UK’s lead organiser of the UIPMB (International Modern Pentathlon & Biathlon) Extraordinary Congress at Heathrow, when the International Biathlon Union (IBU) was established. John was Great Britain’s biathlon team leader at four Olympic Winter Games.

SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP YJWCH 2020


The OC Lenzerheide invited several stakeholders this August for a common sustainability workshop to discuss the possibilities and optimisation potential for a sustainable IBU Youth/Junior World Championships 2020 as well as the long-term development of the biathlon arena. IBU Race Director Junior Cup, Arne Eidam, stated: „Sustainability has an increasing importance in high-class events and the OC Lenzerheide is putting a lot of efforts into reaching their self-defined targets. With the collaboration of all stakeholders, they will achieve their goals and we will experience a well organised and sustainable IBU YJWCH 2020.“

IBU TV/100 DAYS TO GO


The wait for the new biathlon season is slowly edging closer to its end. The BMW IBU World Cup Season 2019/2020 kicks off on 30 November 2019 in Östersund, Sweden and there will be many questions waiting for answers, including: Who, if anybody, can dethrone Dorothea Wierer of Italy and JT Boe of Norway as the IBU World Cup Total Score Winners? Moreover, who will shine at the highly anticipated IBU World Championships 2020 in Antholz - Anterselva, Italy? Watch the countdown video here.

IBU-IOC DEVELOPMENT CAMP RUHPOLDING


World-renowned biathlon coaches Matthias Ahrens of Canada and Norbert Baier of Germany were leading the IBU-IOC Development Camp held in Ruhpolding for the first time. It was attended by 24 athletes and 13 coaches from 13 national federations. The programme contained shooting training, rollerski training, holistic biathlon training, mountain running, dry shooting, theoretical lessons as well as presentations from IBU supplying partners... YOG 2020: ROAD TO LAUSANNE PICKS UP SPEED


A highlight of the upcoming winter, particularly for the next generation of biathletes, are the Youth Olympic Games 2020 in Lausanne, Switzerland - the biathlon events taking place in France’s Station Des Rousses. In the lead up and during the YOG 2020, two former biathletes will be among the Athletes Role Models (ARM), mentoring and offering advice to the participants. France’s Marie-Laure Brunet has already been announced as one of the ARMs, with a second biathlete to be confirmed shortly.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF . . . CLARE EGAN


At the end of the 2017/2018 season, with PyeongChang 2018 being a big and exhaustive disappointment, Clare Egan, just elected as the chair of the IBU Athlete’s Committee, she was having second thoughts. But spring 2018 brought a change to US Women Team and the new coach Armin Auchentaller changed the way Egan approached biathlon. She was one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2018/2019 season. COMING UP NEXT

IBU OC MEETING IN ANTHOLZ


The IBU and its Organising Committees will hold their OC Meeting 2019 in Antholz from 27 - 29 September 2019. The programme will feature panel discussions around hot topics of Digitalization and Sustainability as well as individual meetings between the OCs, the IBU and its partners to sustain the high-class biathlon events throughout all competition series.
