Having a child affected by cataract can be expensive.
A lot of the costs aren't eligible for government funding or even covered by private health insurance. Eye patches, contact lenses, glasses, hospital parking, lens solution, eye drops and more...it's a long list.
We've heard loud and clear from families that it's tough. That's why we are absolutely thrilled to announce a pilot programme called Cataract Kids Microgrants for 2021.
Any family or caregiver of a child affect by cataract or a related condition (PHPV, ectopia lentis) can apply. Grants can be sought for ANY EXPENSE related to the child's cataract treatment or care where there's no other funding available. You can even apply if the item was partly funded but you had to pay the gap. We've deliberately designed the programme to be as broad as possible.
You can apply for up to $100 per child per year - it's not a lot, we know, but hopefully it might just ease the burden at the toughest imes.
For eligibility criteria and an application form visit our website or email info@cataractkids.org.au
You can complete the application form online, or in Word and email or post it back.
And remember, it's a pilot - we absolutely want your feedback on whether the programme is working the way it should.
From the Cataract Kids Australia family to yours.
