RESIDENTIAL ENERGY CODE ADVOCACY
Th e Washington state residential energy code is being updated now, and there are a collection of significant proposals on the table to increase efficiency and electrify new homes. The State Building Code Council (SBCC) will vote on June 17 whether or not to put forward these proposals out for public comment during the summer, and Shift Zero is urging them to move the full package of vetted proposals forward for a deliberative public comment process.
Please sign-on to letters to the SBCC in support of bringing these important code proposals forward for public comment:
- Residential building industry professionals: sign-on letter.
- Affordable housing advocates sign-on letter
- Environment and climate organizations sign-on letter. Email joelle.robinson@climatesolutions.org to sign on.
Green builder voices are especially needed to offer technical expertise and market perspective supporting code updates to electrify new homes! If you can provide spoken testimony at the June 17 SBCC meeting, please contact rachel@shiftzero.org for more info.
Background on the code process and the residential proposals being considered can be found here. As this process moves along, we will provide updates on when and how to engage. Thank you for your continued advocacy for a strong energy code!
