Start of Washington Legislative Session
On Monday, January 13, the Washington legislature will begin the 2020 session, which is a short 60 day session. Shift Zero and many of its members will be supporting C-PACER legislation, and will be monitoring other legislation and/or supplemental budget asks that could affect energy efficiency and building greenhouse gas emissions. Stay on the lookout for Shift Zero advocacy alerts as session progresses, and take a moment now to find your state representatives and senator!

Seattle Mayor Durkan Signs Electric Municipal Building Directive
On Wednesday, Seattle Mayor Durkan signed an executive order that will require all new and substantially altered city buildings to be all-electric, and directs city agencies to develop a plan by 2021 to transition all city-owned buildings to electric systems. 2021 IECC Preliminary Results are in!
In December, governmental member voting representatives across the U.S. voted in strong support of a more efficient 2021 IECC. 96 of the 99 top priority pro-energy efficiency votes were won, setting the national model code on a path towards net zero buildings by 2050. Results can be found on the ICC website

2018 Seattle Commercial Energy Code
The City of Seattle and the Department of Construction & Inspections (SDCI) has started the process of amending the 2018 Seattle Construction Codes for commercial and multifamily buildings, which includes updates to the energy code. SDCI will be having a series of meetings in January on possible changes to Seattle energy code, with scheduled dates on the afternoons of January 13, 21, 24, and 27. Clean Buildings Rulemaking 
Implementation of the Clean Buildings Act continues with a series of rulemaking meetings on January 30, February 26, and March 25, 2020 (locations and times to be announced). More information, including past meeting presentations and recordings, can be found on the Department of Commerce website
