On Sunday evening, the Washington State Legislature adjourned for the year, closing a session that included many successes on climate and high performance buildings. Some policies that Shift Zero supported, including HB1257 (Clean Buildings) and HB1112 (Phasing out Hydrofluorocarbons) made it all the way and are ready for the Governor’s signature. Others, such as HB1796 (C-PACER) and SB5489/HB 2009 (HEAL Act) did not make through the process, but are well-set up for next year. Shift Zero member Climate Solutions sums up the policy progress.

In addition to new policies to advance clean energy, the legislature passed the 2019-2021 budget, which includes investments in clean energy technologies, energy efficiency and solar in public buildings, low-income weatherization, and ultra efficient affordable housing.
