Hej Everyone! I’m on the train back home from this whirlwind tour of conferences, all of which were excellent! More on that soon, but here to remind you that if you’re in or around New York City, THIS Saturday June 15 @ 7-9PM is the Stateside launch party for Rendering Unconscious: Psychoanalytic Perspectives, Politics & Poetry (Trapart Books, 2019) at Aeon Books, 151 E Broadway, Manhattan. There will be wine and readings by several contributors, listed in the flyer below (+ more!). Books will be available for sale. So meet some incredible, creative thinkers, socialize, network and enjoy! And pick up a great, forward-thinking book while you’re at it!

All info regarding the event can be found at www.dasunbehagen.org

Many thanks to contributors Germ Lynn, Emma Lieber, Julie Fotheringham & Katie Ebbitt for organizing this event!

In times of crisis, one needs to stop and ask, “How did we get here?” Our contemporary chaos is the result of a society built upon pervasive systems of oppression, discrimination and violence that run deeper and reach further than most understand or care to realize. These draconian systems have been fundamental to many aspects of our lives, and we seem to have gradually allowed them more power. However, our foundation is not solid; it is fractured and collapsing – if we allow that. We need to start applying new models of interpretation and analysis to the deep-rooted problems at hand.

“Rendering Unconscious” brings together international scholars, psychoanalysts, psychologists, philosophers, researchers, writers and poets; reflecting on current events, politics, the state of mental health care, the arts, literature, mythology, and the cultural climate; thoughtfully evaluating this moment of crisis, its implications, wide-ranging effects, and the social structures that have brought us to this point of urgency.

Hate speech, Internet stalking, virtual violence, the horde mentality of the alt-right, systematic racism, the psychology of rioting, the theater of violence, fake news, the power of disability, erotic transference and counter-transference, the economics of libido, Eros and the death drive, fascist narratives, psychoanalytic formation as resistance, surrealism and sexuality, traversing genders, and colonial counterviolence are but a few of the topics addressed in this thought-provoking and inspiring volume.

480 pages, 148 x 210 mm, perfect-bound.

As you know, Rendering Unconscious is also a podcast. I turned one of the lectures from the conference Carl & I recently hosted, Re-writing the Future: 1o0 Years of Esoteric Modernism & Psychoanalysis at Brunnenburg & Pienzenau Castles, into an episode of the podcast: Dr Elisabeth Punzi's talk on the relationship between poet H.D. and Freud entitled, Psychoanalysis & the Freedom of Thought: Hilda Doolittle.

Rendering Unconscious Podcast posts on Spotify, iTunes, SoundCloud, YouTube, Vimeo & more. Links to all these sites can be found at www.renderingunconscious.org/about

Carl & I also recently acquired the domain www.psychartcult.org as the demand is continually increasing for the curation of events exploring the intersections of fields that engage the creative potential of the mind. It looks like our next conference will occur around the same time next year. More on that soon! The nickname/ moniker #psychartcult was given to us at the original Psychoanalysis, Art & the Occult conference, London 2016, by publisher extraordinaire Robert Ansell of Fulgur Press, and has stuck with us since then. It is fitting.

As usual, the best way to stay in touch is Patreon where I continually engage works in progress, writing, art, photos, and encourage creative collaboration. Several patrons were attendees and speakers at our recent conference. It's a great way to make new connections and find inspiration!
