Events are moving fast. Club members are receiving their Covid vaccinations and during the last week Sport Scotland have given us the go-ahead to start Club level orienteering once again.

Our volunteers have done a tremendous job in pulling together both training and Spring Series events for late March into May and all that remains now is to get back out there and enjoy it. Our forests are at their best at this time of year.

The Spring Series evening events, starting on 31st March at Dess comprise short easy courses ideal for families and beginners. They also provide a challenge for the experienced to balance their speed and map-reading skills. There will always be a friendly face to point you in the right direction and family groups can go around together.

Monthly training sessions are also planned for the Spring, starting this Sunday 21st March at Cambus O’May. Check out the website for the details of all these events and how to enter.

Covid restrictions still apply, of course, so be vigilant and everyone will stay safe. Please always keep up your 2m distancing and avoid gatherings of more than 15 people, at the start and in the car park for example.

It will be such a pleasure to see everyone again!

Take care, stay safe.

Training Resumes

MAROC training is restarting, next Sunday, 21st March at Cambus O’May

With the changes to the restrictions, we are now able to go ahead with the training next Sunday. Jon Musgrave will be leading the sessions. There will be courses for everyone, from yellow to green (TD2 – TD5).

Please sign up before Friday, 19th March, 12 noon, via the following link

Training will run in 2 groups (10.30 – 11.30 and 11.45 – 12.45), so we can hopefully accommodate everyone who wants to attend. Participants will receive an email on Friday with their training time. Family members will be allocated the same time.

We are planning further training sessions on Sunday, 18thApril and Sunday, 16th May. I am looking for Lead Coaches for both these sessions, locations TBC. Please email me if you are able to take on one of these sessions (

Maroc Junior  6 Week Challenge 2021
Congratulations to Joe O’Sullivan who completed more of the junior lockdown activities than anyone else. Well done Joe!
Mairi Eades from the SRM Sport Research Agency,  University of Edinburgh  has asked if club members would kindly fill in her questionnaire for her University research, the link is here
Map Run
Sarah Dunn has recently set up 3 new MapRun courses at Hill of Banchory.  They are all Novice (yellowish).  They have all been added to the existing set of River Dee Novice MapRuns which can be found on the MapRun app. The MapRun app can be downloaded from your app store for free.  All you need to take part is a smartphone and a map.
Scottish 6 days
Plans are well under way for the Scottish 6 Days in Lochaber. With the road map out of lockdown it is starting to look likely that it will actually happen! It is good to see that a lot of Maroc members have entered already. It would be good to see some of our less experienced members taking part too. A big event can feel really daunting but everyone is always very friendly and helpful. There are courses to suit all abilities and there is no obligation to do all of the days – some of the venues are some distance from Fort William and could be done in isolation as part of a holiday in the area. More information is here   As day organiser for day 2, I have filled most of the team leader roles for the day, but am still looking for someone to take the lead with car parking. I’m pleased to say that no muddy fields are involved! Please get in touch if you think you could help.
Don't forget to read the latest issue of SCORE, SOA's quarterly magazine.
