President's Piece

We’ve now had a year of Covid and our orienteering experience has been very different during this time. Some things have changed but others have not.

The current emergence from restrictions is going ahead slowly but surely; we had our first coaching session of the year last week and the first of our four Spring Series events takes place tomorrow.

At the moment we are limited by Sport Scotland to Club-only events and Local Authority travel restrictions but, following today’s announcements, these should be lifted on 26th April allowing us to be more inclusive for our last two Spring Series events.

Both now and then, please remember to always keep up your 2m distancing and avoid gatherings of more than 15 people, at the start, finish and in the car park. This will keep us all safe.

The committee met last night on Zoom to plan our way through and beyond these transformational times and I’d like to thank them and all club members for their commitment to the club during this past Covid year. We are healthy and active and have a great deal to look forward to during the rest of this year and beyond.

Take care, stay safe.

MAROC training

It was great to see so much interest in our first training session on Sunday, 21st March. Despite running 3 groups, we could not offer places to everyone that wanted to come.

Jon Mugrave was the Lead Coach, and Scott Newey was helping. Thank you to both of you!

We are planning further training session on 18 April and 9 May (change of date!), location to be confirmed. I am still looking for Lead Coaches for these sessions. Please get in touch, if you are interested. Format and location of these sessions are flexible (katjaneumann@btinernet.com).

Be Tick Aware
24th-30th March is “Tick Bite Prevention Week” raising awareness of the consequences ticks can have on ours and our pets health.  For more information about ticks and the risks they pose go to the Scottish Orienteering page here and follow the link to the dedicated site.
Scottish 6 days
Plans are well under way for the Scottish 6 Days in Lochaber. With the road map out of lockdown it is starting to look likely that it will actually happen! It is good to see that a lot of Maroc members have entered already. It would be good to see some of our less experienced members taking part too. A big event can feel really daunting but everyone is always very friendly and helpful. There are courses to suit all abilities and there is no obligation to do all of the days – some of the venues are some distance from Fort William and could be done in isolation as part of a holiday in the area. More information is here www.scottish6days.com   As day organiser for day 2, I have filled most of the team leader roles for the day, but am still looking for someone to take the lead with car parking. I’m pleased to say that no muddy fields are involved! Please get in touch if you think you could help. swoobarrie@gmail.com
