Upcoming training and local events
We have a great block of club training and local events lined up between now and Christmas which are especially designed to give newer members a chance to develop their technique as well as putting it into practice at some low key events (that's not to say that old hands aren't extremely welcome too of course!).

First up this week (Sun 3rd) is a training session for white - orange level youngsters and adults at Braes by Logie Coldstone. It will include some relay simulation designed to give a bit of experience to all the juniors taking part in the inter-area relays on the 10th Nov at Scolty. However, you don't need to be taking part in the inter-areas to come along this weekend and it should be an especially sociable session for adults as well as juniors! Please sign up for the training at Braes by Fri evening, using the Doodle poll here

Keep an eye on the Maroc website for info about what's happening each subsequent week, together with a link for signing up. We do ask everyone to sign up ahead for club training sessions so that we know how many maps to print and can split people into appropriate groups for coaching.

Deeside Night Cup

A wee heads up to test your torches and dust off your night O tactics over the next few weeks as the Deeside Night Cup series recommences on the 6th November.

Every Wed evening upto mid-March, with a short break or Christmas and New Year, in a wide variety of areas up and down Deeside and a bit beyond as the series is shared with Gramp.  Two courses of 5km and 3km both TD5 or Green standard.  Bring a spare torch/battery and wrap up warm or waterproof as appropriate.

Seniors £5, Juniors £2.50
Starts/Reg 18:00 – 19:00
Courses close 20:00/20:30 depending on the planner/area.

If you’re not yet TD5 (Green) standard then please find someone who is to run with the first couple of times so you can pick up tips on Night O navigation strategy.    If you’re a newcomer to night O or only just working up to that standard but fancy having a bash then come along and give it a try at the first two events, 6th Nov at Glen O Dee, Banchory and 15th Nov at Hazlehead, Aberdeen (parks and golf course usually!!) where the areas really only allow TD4 or light green standard.

As this is a shared series, we operate a separate blog to the club websites with full list of dates, venues, travel maps, final results and chat – DNC Blog.  Once it kicks off in earnest check there  for up to date details like snow reports if necessary.

There are lavish prizes for the best M/W Junior and Senior in each Cup and a host of frivolous prizes for things like the Toughest of the Tough for the most gruelling courses and Best/Worst Mistake, all presented at the end of series evening meal and social.  Seriously though, this is one of the most competitive leagues around and worth turning out for if only for the challenge of finding your way around areas you thought you knew pretty well until someone turned the lights out!

Junior Inter Area Entries
A reminder to everyone who said they were available to run at the junior inter area event at Cambus o' May on 10th Nov that you should pre-enter for the event here by Nov 3rd at the latest. This also applies to everyone else who wishes to run too - due to the high number of people expected, entries on the day are likely to be very limited.
Juniors should generally enter the course that they would normally run, whilst bearing in mind that the green course is not one of the competitive classes for the boys. The nominated course / class combinations are as follows:

BOYS                                  GIRLS
Brown (M18A)                     Blue (W18A)
Blue (M16A, M18B)            Green (W16A, M18B)
Light Green (M14A, M16B) Light Green (W14A, W16B)
Orange (M12A, M14B)       Orange (W12A, W14B)
Yellow (M10A, M12B)         Yellow (W10A, W12B)
Juniors can also run up, in which case they are scored at the higher age class, so a W14 running Green will be scored against W16s.

Volunteers on the day are still needed, if you can help please contact Pat Graham patricia4732@yahoo.co.uk

AGM
Maroc’s AGM and social will take place on Saturday 23rd November at Finzean Village Hall at 6 for 6.30 till 9pm. The evening’s formalities will be swiftly dealt with, allowing ample time for the prize giving, pot luck supper, chat and games. Please bring a dish of food to share and remember any trophy you may have won last year.

Controllers Course

A Grade C Controllers Course is being held in Roseisle Village Hall, Elgin on Sat 23rd Nov. Anyone interested in attending should contact Denise Martin, denise at scottish-orienteering.org to book a place. Before qualifying as a controller you will need to have planned and organised a certain number of local and regional events, in addition to attending this one day course.
