President's Piece

Our four Wednesday training events have been a great success with many members returning to the forest. I’d like to particularly acknowledge coaches Sarah, Sue, Katja and Roger for putting the series together so effectively. It’s also a great tribute to our volunteers that planner/organisers for the forthcoming Deeside Night Cup (DNC) series were ‘sold out’ in less than 24 hours!

There have also been two very successful Local Sunday events on Deeside recently; our event at Cambus O’May and Gramp’s at Glen Dye. Much has been learned about how to run Covid-safe events as efficiently as possible and we are currently working with Gramp to streamline the upcoming DNC events. These start at Balmedie on 28th October and Maroc’s first event is at Murray and Haughton Park in Alford the following Wednesday. Give Night ‘O’ a try if you have not done so before, it’s a rewarding challenge.

This streamlining will also carry through into two Sunday Local events we are holding at Creag Choinnich by Braemar (8th November) and Muir of Dinnet (6th December). These are important to keep us going through the autumn and winter and compliment the night orienteering. They will be low key events, much closer in style to what we have been used to pre-lockdown although Covid safety will, of course, be paramount.

We are still looking for organisers for both events and a planner at Muir of Dinnet so if you were unsuccessful getting a DNC event here is another chance. All the computing and Covid requirements are covered by the established teams.

The events schedule is filling up and we have come a long way since April. We are in continuous contact with SOA and SportScotland to keep up to date with all the latest Covid guidance to keep everyone safe at our events.

Take care, stay safe.
