In 2016, Pennsylvania proved to be pivotal in the election of Donald Trump. Along with Wisconsin and Michigan, the historically reliable blue state handed its 20 electoral votes to Trump, helping to guarantee his victory.
With registered Democrats outnumbering Republicans by over 900,000 in the state, a 2016 Trump victory should have never happened in Pennsylvania. Trump defeated Hilary Clinton in Pennsylvania by only 44,000 votes. We should easily be able to reverse this trend by increasing Democratic voter participation, and we can do this!
Defeating Donald Trump should be the number one priority of Pennsylvanians in 2020 as Trump recently voiced his opposition to federal financial help  to states that have democratic governors. This in all likelihood would translate to massive layoffs of policemen, firemen, teachers, road maintenance crews, transit workers, health care workers, and others. This move would not only affect Democrats, it would affect all state residents.
One way to ensure Donald Trump does not get his way is to make certain that we have a large Democratic voter turnout in the state to prevent him from being reelected. And with mail in voting permitted in Pennsylvania (thank you Governor Wolf), voting has never been easier.
The Upper St. Clair Democratic Committee has been working hard to make sure that we get that large Democratic voter participation in the township. In March/April, the committee delivered or mailed virtually every democratic household in the district an application for a mail-in ballot, and our efforts are paying off. As of May 5, twenty eight percent of Democrats have requested mail-in ballots, compared to 10% of registered Republicans in the township.
Allegheny County plans to send a mail-voter application to every registered voter next week, so if you have not submitted your request, you will have another chance to do so. In the meantime, the Democratic Committee is planning a summer outreach to those voters who still haven’t applied for a mail-in ballot, and we can use your help. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to submit their applications. Also, if you would like to be part of our effort to contact voters this summer, please contact Committee Chair Mary Mcintyre at We need your help, and with your help we can do this!
