Psalm 46:1-2, 7-8
  • God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
    Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be moved, and though the mountains be toppled into the depths of the sea;
    The nations make much ado, and the kingdoms are shaken; God has spoken, and the earth shall melt away.
    The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob  is our stronghold.
Lutherans find great comfort in Psalm 46; it's what inspired Martin Luther to write our "fight song," A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

Like practically every other congregation in our country, we are trying to make sense of how social distancing impacts our worship and prayer. We can't escape the truth that our Lord promises where two or three are gathered, he is present among us. Our worship and prayers are not mere episodes for streaming and binge-watching "on demand," separate and apart from our brothers and sisters in Christ. The Lord in his wisdom has blessed us with modern technology that will help us to bridge the social distance between us so that, in certain ways, we may worship and pray together. Thanks be to God.

As we noted in an earlier email, the work of local congregations gathered in prayer and worship is essential in time of crisis. God’s people have a long, long history of ministry during crisis including plagues. St. Peter does not shame or guilt trip anyone for following the strict social distancing guidelines the government has set. These things need not be presented as false alternatives.

Following our worship commission meeting we are preparing a variety of worship and prayer opportunities for you during this viral outbreak. On our website we have a special page now for Corona Virus/Covid19/Wuhan Virus resources

As you are already aware, we continue to broadcast our Sunday, 9:00 AM worship, on Texas Thunder Radio 94.3 & 99.9 FM. The radio station simulcasts over the internet on their webpage if you are out of broadcast range. Worship is radio only 03.22 & 03.29 (no Saturday worship 03.21 & 03.28). We have simplified our liturgy and will post an order or worship that you may use to participate out there in "radio land". In other words, keep your social distance and tune in.

Our Wednesday evening Lenten dinners and Vespers evening prayer services concluded on March 18. We will post a simplified liturgy for use at home as well as the conclusion of our liturgy preaching series for download.

Other worship and prayer resources are in the pipeline and will be released when they're ready.
