When Everything in Your Life is Hard
Philippians 2:19-21
I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

CONSIDER THIS

Don’t you love it how Paul just breaks out of the most massive Christological hymn in the history of hymns (a.k.a. Philippians 2:6-11) and now he’s onto his to-do list as relates to the Philippians? He’s sending emissaries and making travel plans.

Not only is Paul’s life a living crucible of the gospel he is preaching, he has a protégé in whom the gospel is also flourishing: Timothy.

Note Paul’s metric for what gospel flourishing looks like:

I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare.

It’s got me asking myself, Do I show genuine concern for the welfare of other people? Or am I primarily concerned about my own welfare? Honestly, I don’t think I land in either of those places. I am somewhere in the mushy middle. The next verse instructs  me in a fresh way:

For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

I’m not sure I am making this connection between showing genuine concern for the welfare of others and the interests of Jesus Christ.

WORSHIP HEADING OUTDOORS
When our ministry team met recently we discussed worshipping outside more like we did on Easter.  Not only do we have an amazing view of God's glory in creation, but this will enable us to sing and for worship leaders to remove masks.   So for the near future,  if the weather is nice on Sunday, we will plan to worship outdoors.  Bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen/hat, and mask. (distancing and other in-person requirements will still be in place-see requirements below.  If it's rainy we will worship indoors.

CLOVER HILL COOKS CONNECTION:  ADOPT A FRIEND
As a way to help us share the love with one another and members of our community we continue our efforts to reach out with food (meals, baked goods, etc).  We need volunteers to adopt a friend each month to take food to, at least once that month.  Some folks like the Ottobine Elementary Families we take meals to need that extra support, for other folks it's just a simple way to say we're thinking about you and care about you (right now we're focusing on our elderly, shut-ins, prayer list, and some of our young families).   If you know of someone we should add to the list contact Jan Rhodes or Pastor Sarah.

HONORING OUR GRADUATES
This year we want to honor our graduates both from 2020 and 2021.  If you or someone you know in our church family has graduated  or will graduate this spring (high school, college, grad school)  please fill out the form at this link.  We will give thanks for our graduates in Worship on June 6th!

PRAYER GROUP
Prayer group will resume meeting at 6:30pm on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays  of each month. Whether you are new to prayer or an experience pray-er  you're invited to come pray with us!   Next prayer group meeting May 6th at 6:30pm in the sanctuary.

THE CHOSEN - Watch and Discuss
The Chosen is a tv show that tells the story of Jesus life as you have never seen it before.  Unlike some Christian-made movies and shows, this series is very well made, thought provoking, and faith inspiring.   This spring and summer on select Sunday afternoons starting May 23rd we will watch episodes of season 1 together with some brief time of discussion after each episode.  Invite your friends.  All ages welcome.    If you are a parent with young children we will have childcare available as need,  let Pastor Sarah know ahead of time (540-209-7409) so we can prepare.

GROW GROUPS WILL BEGIN MEETING AGAIN SOON
If you are currently not a part of a GROW group or would like to be a leader of a new GROW group contact Pastor Sarah.

COUNCIL MEETING COMING UP -  7pm on May 11

 RETURNING TO IN PERSON WORSHIP
We have returned to offering In Person worship in the sanctuary.  We will continue to offer Drive-In and Online worship as well.   If you plan to attend worship in person you must:
  • Assess your health before coming (do you have a fever, symptoms of COVID)
  • Be able to answer questions on your health/COVID exposure as you enter
  • Wear a mask  (new evidence is encouraging double masking)
  • Maintain 6ft physical distancing from others at all times (except members of your household)
Please make the best decision for your health and the health of others when deciding how you will worship with the Body of Christ each Sunday.
