President's Message

Happy and Healthy

The SAMGMA Education Conference is in full swing.  The last session is Thursday, February 18th at 11:00 am to 1:15 pm.  Please join us for great conversation and presentations!  Continuing education credits are available.  My compliments to the Education Committee Members for organizing and  assembling such a fantastic event!

On the practice front, the future of virtual visits and artificial intelligence (AI) has arrived on our doorstep.  Virtual visits and AI are transforming the industry.  Healthcare is adopting these technologies faster than most of the past technologies have been adopted.  Think about how long it took to adopt the EHR.   Businesses that respond quickly to virtual visits and AI are able to keep employees working by keeping their patients.

From HealthLeaders: “When it comes to developing competencies to prepare for value-based care, an overwhelming number of healthcare executives (81%) responding in a new HealthLeaders Intelligence Report say building their telehealth platform is their top priority.”

Call for Board Members

As we start 2021, the Board of Directors will start their search for new Board members to serve our organization.  Board members must be current with membership dues paid.  The continued success and longevity of SAMGMA depends on members volunteering their time to keep the organization viable.

Texas MGMA Update – Tom Tidwell, CMPE (Texas MGMA Board of Directors)

2021 began with association management services being moved from the Texas Medical Association to M3 Solutions.  Ms. Lisa Beard, M3 Solutions President, will be our new Texas MGMA Executive Director.  I have had several conversations with Lisa, and I am looking forward to her enthusiasm to improve Texas MGMA.  M3 Solutions manages 13 State MGMA Chapters, including Texas MGMA.

Texas MGMA now has a new website that includes an event calendar.  M3 Solutions provides a complimentary monthly webinar that all current members are welcome to register for educational opportunities.

Your Texas MGMA Board of Directors and the Texas MGMA Education Committee are focused on providing you a great in-person conference May 19-21, 2021 at the Westin Memorial City (Houston), and we hope you will attend this conference for networking opportunities and educational sessions.

As a reminder, Monica Estrada is the Texas MGMA Regional Director for the Central Region that includes San Antonio MGMA and Capital City MGMA (Austin).  Monica can be reached at mestrada@abcdpediatrics.com

Michele Mitchell B.S. M.H.A.

Michele Mitchell has been in healthcare management for over 25 years.  After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Biology, she went on to get her Masters in Health Administration from Xavier University.  At this point, she decided to leave her hometown of Cincinnati and head east to Boston where she completed her administrative residency and was offered her first healthcare management position.  This position was to manage a hospital owned practice which was a trend Michele witnessed twice in her career, sometimes successfully, sometimes not.

Her second job in healthcare management was with a large hospital system in Northern New Jersey where she was a Director of an MSO (Management Services Organization) for the hospital managing several local physician practices.  After a few years there, she headed south to San Antonio with her young family to plant roots.
