A Message from the Chief of Police on Keeping Holiday Deliveries Secure
The holiday season means more home package deliveries, which increases the potential for theft. Home surveillance cameras, like video doorbells, can serve as a theft deterrent, but the best course of action is to limit the amount of time a package is left unattended at your home. If you are expecting a delivery, or receive notification a package has been delivered, try to make arrangements with a family member, neighbor, or friend to retrieve the item(s). The longer a package is left outside, the greater the possibility of theft.

Updated Smoke Alarm Law Effective January 1, 2023
The Updated Illinois Smoke Alarm Law, passed in 2017, addresses updates in smoke alarm technology, and requires that any new smoke alarm installed within a single or multi-family home have a 10-year sealed battery. Smoke alarms installed prior to January 1, 2023 may remain in place until they exceed 10 years from their date of manufacture or until they fail to respond to operability tests or malfunction. Exemptions to this law are homes built after 1988 that already have hardwired smoke alarms or homes with wireless integrated alarms that use WiFi or networking capabilities.
