Potential Freight Railroad Strike May Impact Metra Union Pacific North Line
Metra is warning riders that due to stalled negotiations between freight railroads and workers, a potential strike may begin on Friday, September 16, with impacts beginning in the evening on Thursday, September 15, and would affect nine lines, as Metra uses tracks that are operated by freight railroads. The Union Pacific North line that runs through Winnetka is owned and operated by a freight railroad, so if the strike does occur, Metra anticipates that there will not be service on this line.
A press release from Metra states that Union Pacific has communicated its intention to curtail service on several train lines, including the Union Pacific North Line, on Thursday, September 15 following rush hour. Inbound trains 372 and 374 toward Chicago are cancelled, and outbound trains toward Waukegan 371, 373, 375, and 377 are cancelled.
Metra will keep riders up to date with information about this possible work stoppage and the impacts to its system via its website.
