Sunday Message: Interdependence Day
with Rev. Amani Malaika
Special Music by the ABQ CSL Players & Michael Herndon

God in me is unified with God in all.
--Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind

In our quests to experience freedom, we often spend enormous amounts of time differentiating ourselves and pointing out all the ways we are unique and ultimately separate from others. We can spend so much energy trying to break free from unwanted authorities that we end up convincing ourselves of a divide and separation between us and them that is the very thing in the way of our true freedom.

Join us online this Sunday in our virtual sanctuary where we will celebrate our gorgeous dependence upon one another and the freedom that Love in Action brings with it.

11:00 AM Sunday on Facebook Live. Click here to watch

Sunday Message Discussion Questions
  1. Share ways you recognize your unity with all things.
  2. How does feeling separate from life or others limit your sense of freedom?
  3. Share your answers and practices with your community members on the ABQ CSL community forum, The Butterfly Net.

Summer Series SpiritGroup Preview
From Jane Midgley, Social Uplift Ministry Team Lead:

Those of us who are white need to take responsibility for understanding and uprooting white supremacy. The recent police killings of Black people in this country and the mass peaceful protests in response are providing renewed motivation for us to become the leaders we are meant to be in creating racial justice and freedom for all in the United States. This is also vitally important so that we can fully value and strengthen the beloved multi-racial community we are building at the Albuquerque Center for Spiritual Living. Everything we do starts with us individually and with our own community.

I will be leading the Understanding and Uprooting White Supremacy for White Folks group, and it will have as its purposes:

  • Understanding how white supremacy affects each of us personally through using the book Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad
  • Discussing and sharing and building community with each other as whites at ABQ CSL
  • Learning to becoming better allies for people of color at ABQ CSL

Even though this will be a summer SpiritGroup, we will adapt the format to bring in as many people who want to participate; community leaders will be facilitating small, break-out groups for deep discussion. There will be educational opportunities on racial justice and white supremacy continuing after the SpiritGroup concludes.

Rev. Amani Malaika will be leading a group at the same time for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color at ABQ CSL. The two groups will come together during this time to learn from and with each other as well.

The SpiritGroup catalog comes out in July and you can sign up then, but we wanted you to know where we are headed. Email me at janemidgley@comcast.net with any questions/comments or if you know for sure you are interested in participating.

Opportunities to Uplift Our Immigrant Neighbors

Our partner NM Faith Coalition for Immigrant Justice is looking for a Community Defense Coordinator/Community Organizer (reports to Executive Director) to work hand in hand with other staff, community members, and other leaders in developing, planning, and executing effective organizing strategies in order to build power and realize meaningful social change. Candidate should be bilingual (Spanish/English). For more info and how to apply, click here

The Coalition has also added a Food Pantry to its services.  Due to devastating levels of unemployment and with no access to the federal help offered to the rest of us (the CARES Act prohibits aid to families with one or more members without a Social Security number), many members of the impacted community are left to depend on food banks, which are themselves experiencing severe shortages. The Coalition Food Pantry fills this void by providing gift cards, non-perishables, hygiene products, and gas cards.  The reach of our support all depends on generous donations. The food pantry is open for donations and pick up Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays 11:00 AM till 4:00 PM at 3501 Campus Blvd. NE.

You can also support this organization's very important work with monetary donations (online here, or checks can be made out to NMFCIJ and sent to P.O. Box 40679, Albuquerque, NM 87196.)

This message has been brought to you by the ABQ CSL Social Uplift Ministry. If you would like to find out more about the Social Uplift Ministry, contact Lisa Crawley via email.
