.As young people put finishing touches on their presentations and get ready to share their impactful work, we hope you're making space to celebrate, reflect, and hopefully, to relax!

Reflection Sessions

This summer went by in a flash!

But we learned *a ton* - let's make sure we bring it to the surface so we can have a collective voice as a field.

In the final week of Summerbridge, join the YES Hive and Research and Documentation teams to reflect, celebrate, and take what we learned going forward. We'll also share some ideas for next steps for the YES 2020 community, and solicit your ideas and feedback about this too. Let's keep this network going -- "we all we got"! 

We ask that as many YES partners join as are able. You can sign up for the morning or afternoon session, we'll have roughly the same activities in each.

Fall Curriculum Inspo: Who’s an essential worker? Who decides?


Looking for some resources for the Fall and beyond?

The Center for an Urban Pedagogy collaborated with Teaching Artist Kevin Cadena to create Who's an Essential Worker?
The curriculum featured in their guide uses design and art as tools to explore how essential workers are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, who benefits from their work, and how they can have more of a say over their working conditions. The curriculum is designed for educators and students engaged in remote learning, and each lesson can be adapted for different levels of access to technology.  - Fielding Hong

Exploring Black Feminism


SYEP youth working with UnmaskEDU engaged in a full weekend of workshops at "The Black Feminist Freshman Orientation" hosted by Aja Imani. Young ladies returned sharing motivational tips about using their voices, finding their like-minded "tribes," exploring new ideas and a heightened sense of awareness of themselves and their abilities. Participants were exposed to socio-emotional learning supports through community building, career explorations and skills building. -Constance Barnes

Taking Action Through Documentaries


Young people at Riseboro reflected on their contribution to their communities this summer by creating short documentary films.
In teams, they identified and researched the 16 United Nations Sustainable Goals, addressing global challenges related to poverty, inequality and peace and justice. They choose one goal that was personally meaningful and reflected on how that goal is connected to issues within their communities. As they got to creating their documentaries, teams created a timelines of action, discussed how their communities would benefit from their efforts and what values would guide them. The end product are "Contribution Projects" -- mementos of these future leaders taking steps to contribute to their communities.  - The Riseboro Team (Mark Laura, Dashawn Smith, Shannon Shaw)

Check out our calendar of showcase events and tune in to learn about their solutions to climate change, their media projects promoting health and wellness, and their civically engaged activism. Professionals and audience members are always needed. Let's pack the virtual house!
