Garden Fest

This Friday, Saturday & Sunday is Garden-Fest at Glass Quest Studio. The Gaffers have been warriors in the heat, creating art glass for you. It may only be in the 80's outside, but it's hitting triple digits inside the studio (geez! Glad it has cooled down a bit now) and the dynamic duo of Mark and Marcus just keep on creating.

Time to celebrate the outdoors by bringing the color of art glass to your yard or home. The temperate Pacific Northwest lends itself well to creating your personal garden/landscape space to enjoy year round.

Come on by and say 'Hi". We will have the ice water and lemonade ready for you. Celebrate the waning of those lazy, hazy (oh yeah the smoke), crazy days of summer this weekend.

See you soon.

Ladies of the Island Show

Scott Milo Gallery, Anacortes
Opens Friday, Sept 7th, 6-9pm

Show lasts Sept 7th - Oct 4th

When the Ladies of the Island Show opens at Scott Milo Gallery on September 7th CAA will be well represented. Marguerite Goff will be there with her clay work, Kathy Hastings will show her photo encaustics, Susan Cohen Thompson will show oil pieces and Liz Hamlin will present watercolors. The Ladies of the Island also include Patricia Resseguie with fiber art, Indy Behrendt making jewelry, Jackie Roberts with writing and photography, Lynne Nielsen working in watercolor, Renate Trapkowski with acrylics and Janet Hamilton working in pastels and oils.
Several years ago ten creative women, all loosely connected to Camano Island began a conversation over dinner about life, creativity and art. The conversation continued over many more meals and powerful bonds were forged inspiring stronger work by each. Food, laughter and  conversation continue as the Ladies of the Island keep exploring links between process and imagination, between daily life and making art, between love and loss and between art and community.

Jason Dorsey

Jason Dorsey, Artistic Director of Sunnyshore Studio on Camano Island, has begun a two-year project called Discover Beautiful Camano Island.

“I grew up on Camano Island. But much of its history and many of its places and people are still unknown to me. I’m looking forward to learning more about this place I love and sharing its stories, its people and its beauty with others.”

Jason will do this through a series of blog posts, videos, and paintings. The project will culminate in the Sunnyshore Studio’s publication of the book Discover Beautiful Camano Island, the release of a documentary video about Camano, and a show featuring artworks of Camano Island artists selected to paint the places of Camano.

Jason Thiemann

by Stephanie Fiebiger
I would like to introduce my partner, Jason Thiemann.
Jason Thiemann is a second-generation professional artistic glassblower. He was born in Union City, California and currently resides in Stanwood, Washington. Jason’s artistic process began as a young child, when at age 10 he started learning the fundamentals of glassblowing from both his parents.

His full-time career started at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas as a demonstration artist glassblower, where he was afforded the opportunity to work aside many world-renowned glassblowers, which gave him a broad perspective of techniques.

Since then, Jason has branched out on his own and has built his business over the past 25 years by innovating and creating unique pieces of functional art, jewelry, wine goblets and sculptures. He has been commissioned occasionally to create unique pieces such as chandeliers, personalized jewelry, and functional art.

When Jason’s beloved dog passed away, he received the ashes in the traditional “wooden box” from the crematory. Instead of placing the box among the other boxes of his previous dog companions, he was inspired to do something unique and different. By popular request, he has expanded to include glass memorial pieces made from human ashes as well.

Jason’s partner, Stephanie, does all of the photography, website and the business side. Stephanie photographs each memorial globe, pendant or sculpture being created by Jason and sends it to the customer; so they feel they are a part of the process. As an added bonus, local customers are encouraged to come to the studio to watch their glass memorial being made, and participate in the process.

Together, Jason and Stephanie have created a compassionate business featuring elegant pieces of memorial art and truly caring for their customers during a difficult time in their lives.
