Spring 2021Newsletter

This season the Iceland Project has been blessed by God to see fruit from our labors begin to form.  Despite the continuation of COVID and the every changing restrictions, all of our ministries are growing, both in maturity and in number.
This Spring, Gunnar has been doing his best to navigate the new pace of life with 4 kids in 2021, while also faithfully leading and serving Loftstofan Baptistakirkja through ever changing COVID rules.

By God’s grace the church has continued to grow, in faith and maturity, and also in people coming to our gatherings and in becoming members.  Currently they are working their way through 1 Peter in their Sunday gatherings, and are about to take a pause to spend a few weeks dwelling on the topic of prayer by going slowly through the Lord’s prayer until they jump into 1 John.

With global vaccine roll outs,  Loftstofan has had people who planned to visit months ago finally make it over. Robert and Linda Grimaud came over from University Fellowship Church to serve along side of Gunnar and Elliot for the entire summer.  Matt Miranda, from SouthWest Church, is preparing to move over here after the summer and other people who’ve been putting off their trips for Iceland are starting to come.

Currently Gunnar and Elliot are prayerfully working through structural changes in the church as they evaluate how to best share and divide responsibilities to lead the church well so that both their gifts and passions can be used to the fullest and compliment each other.

Gunnar has been able to focused more on teaching at Sunday services, and at classes for people coming out of Drug and Alcohol addiction in Teen Challenge. These classes have lead to awesome times studying the Bible together.

For the summer of 2021 Gunnar is taking 3 months of his government paternity leave to focus more on the kids so he’s going to be volunteering some at the church, mainly with preaching, but mostly focusing his time on reading, growing in his knowledge and love of God, and serving and loving his wife and kids this summer.
  • Please continue to pray for Loftstofan as they continue to grow.
  • Pray for Gunnar and Elliot as they work on the best ways to divide their responsibilities and serve the church well.
  • Praise God for the leaders God has provided the Church to serve and minister to the body.

Redeemer City Church is celebrating the fact that they have been able to meet in person since the middle of January. It has been a lot of fun trying to adjust from being a church plant that was completely online due to COVID restrictions to a church that gathers to worship in a home.

The Lord has blessed them with visitors every Sunday for the past several weeks and they’ve enjoyed getting to know these amazing people.

As summer approaches, RCCR is hoping to have some fellowship evenings around food and games which can be a great event for church members to invite their friends and neighbors. They are also hoping to start having EQUIP nights, evenings of focused, topical Bible study aimed at equipping the saints in various areas of ministry.

Christian Student Fellowship (CSF) has been recently established at the University of Iceland. CSF is be the college ministry of RCCR focused on conducting weekly Bible studies on campus. Lord willing the first Bible study series will begin in the fall.

Additionally, Redeemer City is celebrating because after an amazing chain of events, and a story that stretches back all the way to 2015...Logan and Carla are now officially missionaries with the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). This means that they are fully supported by the IMB and any financial support received for Redeemer City will go toward Ministry Support, rather than salary support.

  • Pray that Redeemer City Churches visitors would continue attending and questioning in God.
  • Pray that the church would continue to deepen relationships with each other and those to whom they are witnessing.
  • Pray for Christian Student Fellowship will minister to, encourage, and strengthen the faith of believers on Campus.
  • Praise God from Logan and Carla are officially missionaries with the International Mission Board.
Due to a 4th wave of Covid this Spring, Ex Deus gatherings return to zoom, but their group of students continues to faithfully attend, including a couple students who returned to Germany last year at the start of the COVID outbreak. They have also added some new faces in their group; some soccer players who are here for the season, as well as some students who have joined the church.

Due to the restrictions on their gatherings, they have focused on meeting a couple students at a time: having them over for dinner, and attending zoom gatherings with them. They have enjoyed some amazing home-cooked Chinese food. These times have significantly deepened their relationships with
the students.

Elliot continues to have a weekly bible study with a couple of the students, and he has ordered a bible for one of them, at his request, in his own language. As classes wind down for the summer, so will Ex Deus. Bible study will continue though. They plan on having some summer activities, like ice cream
in the park, day trips, and hikes.
  • Pray that God would continue to open doors for them to enter the lives of these students and pray especially for those who are eagerly studying the Scriptures. Both these students are being challenged by Jesus, pray that the Holy Spirit would soften their hearts.
  • Pray for the restrictions in this country to be lifted and that they will be able to return to campus to hopefully reach more students.
  • Lastly, pray for more workers; one of their very small leadership had to step back to focus on other things, pray that God would send them more laborers.
The Iceland Project hosted it's first Virtual Vision Tour to give participants the opportunity to learn more about the history and mission of the project, see some footage of the country and meet the people who are working to achieve the mission in Iceland without the need to travel.  This tour was a great success and we plan to host more of them in the future.
  • Please pray for the Iceland Project as we continue to strive to share the gospel with the people of Iceland.
