The New Yorker published a stimulating article about the work of scientists developing new methods of testing manuscripts for their protein content, hoping to reveal unknown information. Historically, the world of rare books has not taken to such testing, as it generally involves removing and destroying an actual piece of the item. These new strategies may be a way around that. I have lots of thoughts on this and too little space! Read the article.
Cinephilia & Beyond praises Leigh Brackett -- "already surely familiar to every true fan of the literary genre of science fiction... a name that should be celebrated by every film lover as well" -- and reprints a 1974 interview from right around the time she had finished the first draft script for The Empire Strikes Back.
