Ansord E. Hewitt
OUR’s Director General
Come 2020 January 1, Mr. Ansord E. Hewitt of the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) will begin his second consecutive three-year term in the post of Director-General. This follows his re-appointment to the position by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen.
He was first appointed Director-General in 2017 January 1, to serve for a period of three years. He is the first appointed Director-General under the new Office structure in accordance with the OUR (Amendment) Act, 2015 and is an ex officio member of the Office. Hewitt, who was formerly the OUR’s Director of Regulation, Policy, Monitoring, and Enforcement, has over twenty-five years of experience working and providing leadership at various levels in quasi-judicial organizations. His educational background covers law, management, and economics with extensive specialised training in – among other areas – regulation, competition analysis, strategic planning, leadership, international negotiation, and corporate planning.
Mr. Hewitt has charted a career in competition and regulatory analysis, and, having joined the OUR in February 2000, has served in several other positions. Prior to joining the OUR, Mr. Hewitt worked at the Jamaica Bauxite Institute and the Fair Trading Commission as an Economist and he lectured at the postgraduate level on Regulation and Regulatory Reform in the Department of Government, University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona for over ten years.
