Sande School of Horsemanship recently received a $15,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation. These funds will provide about 40% of our budget to build an ADA accessible classroom / viewing area and mounting platform with an ADA approved lift. Thanks to a successful 2017 Boot Scootin’ Benefit, a $4,000 grant from the Autzen Foundation and $4,000 in private donations, we’re close enough to our funding goal to proceed with breaking ground in June!
This rectangular, 500 sq. ft. space will be situated between the outdoor / indoor arenas, near the covered round corral and will allow viewing of all three riding spaces. It will have a retractable dividing wall to be convertible into two separate classrooms or one large room, with separate entrances to each side. You can see a drawing of the new classroom below from the perspective of the outdoor riding arena! The new space will serve many functions for our various student populations – including a classroom, reception desk, enclosed, heated viewing area and a wheelchair ramp / mounting lift for our riders with developmental disabilities. Thanks to everyone who has helped achieve this spectacular goal!
Please save the date for a groundbreaking ceremony and reception on Monday, June 11th, from 4:30pm to 6pm at Sande! We will have some remarks from a few individuals, a groundbreaking ceremony and brief reception with some refreshments. We would love to celebrate this exciting new addition to the barn community with you!

Show and Tell – Saturday, May 19th
Our first ever Show and Tell event takes place this Saturday and will showcase your students’ progress, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate what they’re learning for parents, friends and family.
If you haven’t yet confirmed with your instructor if you’ll be at this Saturday’s Show and Tell, please email Kassi and let her know if your student will be attending.
Please plan on being helmeted and waiting by the arena 5 minutes prior to your level’s start time.
Bring your own chair if you want a guaranteed seat!
We’ll provide some light refreshments and snacks. Feel free to bring cookies to add to the refreshment table!
This is our first year offering the event. Depending on how many students attend, weather, horses’ response to the crowd, etc., it could impact our anticipated start times. We’ll do our best to stay on time, but thanks in advance for your understanding if some of the later groups run behind!
For every level, we’ll talk for a few minutes about what students are learning, then have students demonstrate their horsemanship knowledge and on-ground skills together. Next, we’ll split students into two groups and have them take turns demonstrating their riding skills for about 10 minutes each.

The Boot Scootin' Benefit is coming up in a few months and we need help in several different areas such as auction item procurement, item pick up, sponsorships, set up and tear down. We are in the procurement phase now and would greatly appreciate anyone's help securing exciting items to feature in our auction. Do you have a connection to a vacation house, a local business, winery, brewery, or anyone else who might consider donating to our nonprofit to benefit our community members in need of support?
