Season’s greetings from Sande School of Horsemanship!

Thank you for your support through this transformative year at Sande!  With help from our generous donors, volunteers, staff and clients, we have reached more people than ever before with accessible equine programs focusing on life skill development for all individuals, including at-risk youth and people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In 2019, Sande School of Horsemanship:
  • Served 150 individuals, including 35 at-risk youth and 40 students with intellectual and developmental disabilities through multiple therapeutic horsemanship programs.
  • Began the process to become a Service Provider for clients of the Amani Center.  We anticipate serving our first Amani students in January 2020!
  • Completed ADA modifications to create a more accessible equine facility and broke ground on an ADA Accessible bathroom.
  • Expanded our Level 1 Youth Leadership Program and broadened the curriculum to include more positive goal-setting techniques and mental health supports for youth facing behavioral health challenges.
  • Received generous grant funding that will allow us to serve more youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as youth and family members facing mental health hardships in 2020.

We have even more exciting projects on the horizon for 2020 and need volunteer support more than ever before.  Please let us know if you are interested in supporting our growth with any of the following:
  • Assist riders with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or behavioral health diagnoses during field trips to the facility and/or during weekly lessons (training provided)
  • Help plan the Boot Scootin’ Benefit fundraiser, taking place on Saturday, May 30th
  • Facility maintenance and improvements

By committing some of your time, you could help make a big difference in the lives of your community members! Please contact Sarah Frobisher at sandehorsemanship@gmail.com if you are interested in learning about volunteer opportunities.  Or if you would like to show support for our programs in the form of a tax-deductible donation, your contribution would help our community’s underserved populations access therapeutic horsemanship.

We sincerely thank you for your participation in 2019 and look forward to spending 2020 with you!

Kassi Euwer, Executive Director
Join Us for Winter Lessons!

Don’t miss out on your barn time in 2020!  Join us for our 10-week Winter Session, which begins on January 13th and ends on March 21st.  Click here to see the information sheet, which includes lesson descriptions, tuition information and projected schedule.  Also, please note a few important scheduling updates:

  • A grooming kit
  • Fitted Riding Gloves
Our own Sande rider, Ben Murphy, created this lovely Christmas card for Sande this year! Benjamin (Ben) Murphy is an artist, animal lover and gamer. He loves to paint, draw and sculpt and enjoys experimenting with new materials and techniques.  Ben is expanding his abilities and enthusiasm for art through working with and alongside the diverse community of artists of Public Annex in Portland Oregon. This year Ben was one of 5 artists chosen to participate in their Artist Residency program. Ben was paired with Portland artist, Rachel Mulder, and met with her for 14 weeks, learning and developing his skills in drawing, painting and observing. There will be a group show for theChrse 5 artists sometime in the New Year (date and time to be determined). Ben will also be showing some of his paintings in various venues in Portland. Visit Ben's site: benjaminmurphyartist.com, to see his work, to shop, and for updates on shows.

Youth Leadership Reception Recap
Sande's Youth Leaders have been working hard this session and we are so proud of them. On Sunday December 8, we were able to honor them and show off what all of their new skills. Family, friends, and supporters gathered to watch the skills and learn about what the Youth Leaders do- and how important they are to Sande. Thank you to everyone who attended and made this a special night for these kids.

SAVE THE DATE!

The Boot Scootin' Benefit is coming back on Saturday, May 30th! Sande's annual, family-friendly fundraiser includes live music, dancing, dinner, dessert, live and silent auctions, mechanical bull rides and so much more. We are excited about moving the event from Fall 2019 to Spring 2020! This is our largest event of the year and we could use your help! If you would like to be involved, please contact Sarah at sandehorsemanship@gmail.com  The first planning meeting will be in January.
