Show-N-Tell December 8

Dear Parents & Students,

Please join us and support your students at our Fall Term Show N' Tell. Students will take turns showcasing their Riding and Horsemanship skills during their scheduled time. Light refreshments will be served and photo opportunities will be provided to all students and their families before dismounting. Students and parents are requested to arrive at the beginning of the preceding session in order to ensure everyone is checked in and ready to go on time. If you are unsure of your participant's level, please check with their teacher at the next lesson. Everyone is welcome to stay beyond their session and watch others– just please be mindful that your departure time doesn't conflict with another groups arrival time as we are trying to reduce two-way traffic on the driveway.

Students must RSVP by Wednesday, December 4 to participate.

Congratulations Christina!

The Sande School of Horsemanship family would like to extend a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Christina Sullivan, longtime Instructor and boarder at Sande, on her new role as the Community Development Administrative Assistant with the City of St. Helens!  Christina will be downsizing her role at Sande but will continue to teach her Monday, Tuesday and Saturday lessons through the end of the term.   We will be sad to see her less, but are excited about her new adventure and are wishing her the very best.  Sarah Frobisher will be taking over administrative duties such as scheduling, invoicing, etc. from Christina - please contact Sarah with any of those needs moving forward as of December 2nd.

Sarah is sharing the email with Christina and Kassi through November.  Beginning December 2nd, Sarah will take over the email account as well as the Sande cell (503-717-3730).  Sarah will also assist with the email in hopes of helping Kassi with more timely responses.

Thanks in part to a generous grant from Columbia Pacific CCO, our Executive Director Kassi was able to attend the National PATH International conference in Denver, CO November 8 – 10th.  PATH (Professional Association for Therapeutic Horsemanship) International celebrated its 50th year this year  with nearly 700 attendees and 55+ sessions focusing on education, collaboration and development. Kassi attended an 8-hour session just for Executive Directors of therapeutic horsemanship programs, specifically focusing on long-term center sustainability.  Other sessions throughout the weekend focused on therapeutic equine interventions for children in foster care, building partnerships with schools, using horses to help survivors of domestic violence, as well as building additional programs to help ensure long-term sustainability.  Perhaps most valuable was the opportunity to connect and share resources with other instructors and centers.  Her experience there will help inform our programs and shape the future of Sande School of Horsemanship!  For more information about PATH International or its many accreditation programs, visit  Thanks again to Columbia Pacific CCO for their support.  Their grant included a portion for education and certifications.  This was the second of a number of those opportunities that Kassi and Sande School will participate in over the next year!
Welcome Mango!

What’s furry, friendly and the sweetest new member of the barn family?  Mango!   The Euwers were chosen to be Mango’s Guardian Home for Ebert Goldens and are hoping to take Mango through the process of becoming a Therapy dog.  She is an English Cream Golden Retriever
and her full name is Ebert’s Mango Song.
We don’t need to micromanage everywhere she goes, but there are a
few ways you can help keep her safe:
  • Please don’t pick her up or carry her. As much as we love to snuggle her, it’s not safe for so many different people to pack her around. Please let your kids know that they should show their love down at her level.
  • If you see her in the crossties being unsafe around horses, you can help putting her on a leash to keep her away for a few minutes until she’s distracted with a new adventure.
  • More than anything, drive slow and be on high alert for Mango, chickens and ducks in the parking lot!  We have a lot of furry and feathered friends who don’t know cars are dangerous.
  • If she’s in the arena during group lessons, Kassi might love your help putting her on a leash in the ramp area.
  • Show her lots of love, especially when she comes to greet you or you see her going potty outside!
 Board of Directors Openings
The Board is currently seeking one or two more members, specifically individuals with local community connections who are in the Education or Healthcare fields. If you are interested in becoming a Board Member, please submit a Letter of Interest and Resume to Kassi at The Board will review this information at their next meeting in early December. Thank you for your interest!

Sande's annual fundraiser is coming back on Saturday, May 30th! This family-friendly event includes live music, dancing, dinner, dessert, live and silent auctions, mechanical bull rides and so much more. Stay tuned for more details and let us know if you are interested in volunteering!
As we reflect on all we are thankful for this year, the top of our list includes our patrons, riders, volunteers, board members and so many others who contribute to the success of Sande School of Horsemanship. We love what we do, and it is only because of all of you! We wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving.
