If you saw an item in the March Mawnan Diary that we were planning to hold the next public steering group meeting on Monday 23 March, we are sorry to tell you that in current circumstances it is wiser to postpone it to a future date.  It is felt that we need to take every step we can to protect our community from Covid-19, and not least because of the age profile across the parish.

It was to have been a very special evening, and was scheduled to include a presentation from Cornwall’s AONB unit, and their contractors Golden Tree Productions, on a project, celebrating 60 years of the AONB.  Golden Tree Productions, the team behind Cornwall’s famous Man Engine, are planning to create the world’s largest labyrinth that they hope will last for 4,000 years, 56 meters in diameter, on Bodmin Moor, in different styles of Cornish hedges from all 12 of Cornwall’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you were hoping to attend, we promise to give you plenty of notice for the next time we feel able to re-schedule.

We have assembled all the necessary documentation to carry the NDP through to its next stage, and this has been presented in draft form to the Parish Council.  It is a substantial and complex document, and the council will need to study it in detail so we can answer any queries they may have.

In normal circumstances the next step thereafter would be to make it available to the residents of the parish for six weeks in electronic form, as well as paper documentation, and to invite parishioners to meet with us to raise any comments they wish - probably in May/June.  We will take advice from Cornwall Council on how to handle this if risks from Covid-19 remain as they are at present.

We will keep you informed.
We have been asked by the Parish Council to include the following announcement in our newsletter.  Whilst not an NDP matter we feel in the circumstances, and not just because the situation has led to the cancellation of our next meeting and the AONB presentation, that every effort should be made to circulate this information:

Appeal from the Parish Council.
Coronavirus and the Mawnan Parish Community.

We are all aware that we need to be considering special measures to put in place to fight the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and although residents of our community are always ready to step up on occasions like this co-ordination and communication is essential.  If you are able to help neighbours on your street perhaps you could consider posting your offer to help on the Mawnan Smith Facebook page at  The Parish Council can provide some help, but we need to know what areas to target - especially since a number of councillors will themselves also be subject to any Over 70s restrictions.  We know that Durgan has already set up their own help group.

Whilst the Parish Council offices remain open you can contact us on 01326 251 022 or via email if you are really stuck for help.  If it is urgent and you haven’t heard back in 24 hours please try contacting one of your parish councillors by phone.  Their numbers are on the parish website.
The Parish Council website will now have the front page dedicated to Coronavirus measures if anyone needs more information.  Similar information is also on the community website.

Cornwall Volunteers is also looking to set up “flu friends” to make sure as many communities as possible have the cover they need during this event.  Anyone willing and able to help (and at this stage they are just gathering names) please get in touch by calling 01872 266 988 or email  Alternatively please feel free to use the form below which is already circulating around the country and use it in your immediate neighbourhood if you can help.

Why not check if your friends and neighbours are receiving this newsletter, and if not forward this link to them so they can subscribe to future issues.
