Hi,

Welcome to the Sunday Email for February 5th. I'm changing the format of this email up for a bit, so please bear with me. I'd like to introduce a series I've wanted to write about for a long time. It's called The Hero's Journey. If this series resonates with you, shoot me a note and let me know! If you are just joining us, click here to start at the beginning or reread past emails

The Call

A white rabbit appears in Alice’s garden. R2-D2 delivers a message from Princess Leia. Gandalf shoves the magic ring into Frodo’s hands.

These characters represent the herald of the Hero’s Journey. The herald’s job is to get the story moving along, to tell the hero the time has come to seek the prize, and, if need be, turn the hero’s world upside down. The hero can no longer remain where they are.

In stories and movies the call to adventure is overt – it stares the hero in the face.

Real life is no different, we just have to be open to it.

As Dr. Carol Pearson notes, “The call takes different forms for different people. Always the call is to function at a higher or deeper level, to find a way to live that has more significance and depth, to find out who you are beyond the social persona that you and your environment have jointly created.”

When we are ready for the Hero’s Journey, something deep inside of us recognizes it (even if we don’t at a conscious level), and the herald appears in our lives.

It comes to different people in different ways and at different times in their lives. Over the next few weeks, we will look at the different ways the call shows up. And, maybe… just maybe… you will recognize yours in the process.

Thanks again for signing up for this email!
