FDPN is proud to launch the first Australia-wide survey to comprehensively capture the experiences of displacement and settlement of LGBTIQ+ forcibly displaced people.

The aim of this survey is to collect information about the experiences and barriers of LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people in Australia so we can advocate for more welcoming and inclusive support.
LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced person means:
- an asylum seeker,
- a refugee or
- a migrant (both temporary and permanent) who is from a non-Western country and who was not able to safely live there as an LGBTIQA+ person in their country of origin.

This is a very important survey. Such comprehensive information has not yet been collected in Australia.
We want to collect comprehensive data about LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people in Australia, their experiences in Australia and where they seek help. Collected data will be used to advocate for better support for LGBTIQA+ asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. This matters because we, as LGBTIQA+displaced people, remain unseen and unheard in Australia where we deserve equal opportunities to call Australia home.
This survey is for people 18 and over and who are currently in Australia. The survey is anonymous with an option to leave an email address at the end to receive a report.

This survey was funded by the ACT Government Office of LGBTIQ+ Affairs.
The ethical aspects of this research have been approved by the ANU Human Research Ethics Committee (Protocol 2022/326).

As an LGBTIQ+ person seeking asylum, refugee or migrant, we remain often invisible. Services are not meeting out needs. We still may experience negative experiences with settlement and have no community to go to.
FDPN, an LGBTIQ+ refugee-led organisation has created a survey to better understand these experience and then to advocate for better supports. This is the first survey in Australia of this kind. Please share your experiences so all of us can finally get the support we deserve. The survey is anonymous.
