  • Meet with the police to discuss crime
  • Pelaw Club to continue
  • Outrage over Council's double-standards
  • Can you help the Focus Team do more for our area?
Please forward this e-Focus to others who may find it useful, or share it on social media.

With best wishes,

A defibrillator for Bill Quay
Bill Quay Primary School's school council are currently raising money for a defibrillator that would be accessible to the whole community.

Councillor Ian Patterson said "I am delighted to see this. These are life saving devices and its important our area has one".

If you would like to support their fundraising efforts, donations can be made at the school office.
Fighting Fly-tipping
The Focus Team are leading efforts to deal with fly-tipping.

Local campaigner Paul Diston has been reporting incidents of fly-tipping in our area to the Council and is demanding the Council adopt a zero-tolerance approach to those who fly-tip.

Paul said "This is a great area and those who fly-tip are letting us all down. We need to make sure those who fly-tip are prosecuted to send out a strong message that this will not be tolerated in our community. I have been reporting incidents to the Council. If you know of any incidents of fly-tipping, please let me know by emailing me at or phoning me at 0191 4423219".

Police Meetings coming up
The Focus Team have been speaking to residents about anti-social behaviour - we recently held a street stall at Fewster Square to discuss it with residents - and are pleased to report that residents will now have the opportunity to give their views to the police at the following times.

Paul Diston said " Anti-social behaviour is a top concern for residents and we will continue to press the police to address this issues".

The first meeting has already occurred, but other meetings are planned. Please see below.
Pelaw Club to continue
Pelaw Club is set to continue after members rejected a bid to have it taken over.

The Club now has a new committee and it is hoped will continue for many years.

Ian Patterson said "Clubs are an important part of bringing members of the community together and I am glad to see this".
Outrage at Labour Council's double standards
Gateshead Council's decision to prosecute a pub for not abiding by planning rules has led to accusations of double-standards after the Council failed to get planning permission before building a huge new car park at Quarryfield, near the Gateshead Quays.

This car park was built in time for the Great North Exhibition last year. And then it was pointed out that no planning permission had been granted for the development. Two days before the £700,000 car park was due to open, Gateshead Council granted itself planning permission.

Can you help the Focus Team do more for Pelaw & Heworth?
The Focus Team works hard all year round and provides a regular newsletter, 'Focus on Pelaw & Heworth', to all households in the area. We rely on local residents to help deliver this. Would you be able to spare an hour or so every few months to deliver some newsletters near to where you live? If so, please get in touch by replying to this email.
