Improving Low Fell's car parks - your views wanted!

We have set up a survey so that you can let us know how to improve Low Fell's car parks, including what you think about car parking charges in Low Fell and what changes you would like made.

Daniel Duggan said "Having a vibrant shopping area is so important for Low Fell and we need the Council to support local businesses. This survey will help us when we have discussions with Council officers so please do take a few minutes to complete it".

You can compete the survey by clicking here

Dealing with litter
Litter continues to be an issue residents regularly raise with us and the Focus Team are asking the Council to make it more of a priority.

Susan Craig said "People deserve to live in a nice, clean environment and those who litter really let us all down. With news that the Council has £39 million in the bank in reserves we are calling on the Council to spend more on street cleaning".

Council Tax expected to rise

Gateshead Council will be setting their budget for the year ahead next month and there is concern that another Council Tax hike is planned.

This is despite news that the Council has been building up huge reserves. Lib Dem Councillors – who are the only opposition to Labour on the Council – have discovered that Labour bosses have been building up vast reserves. Reserves now stand at £39 million.

Labour-run Gateshead Council already charges the highest level of Council Tax of any metropolitan borough in the country.

Ron Beadle, Deputy Leader of the Lib Dem Opposition, said “Labour are planning to hit Council Taxpayers again whilst building huge levels of reserves. It is right to plan ahead, but Council taxpayers deserve a break. Piling up huge sums of money in the bank while local residents struggle to pay their Council Tax and public services are cut just isn’t right”.

Lib Dem Councillors will be carefully scrutinising Labour’s planned budget.

Well done Peter!
Gateshead Councillor Peter Craig has been awarded the British Empire Medal for his community work. Peter, who is Susan’s husband and represents Whickham on Gateshead Council, is a well-known figure in Low Fell, where he helps to support the Low Fell Focus Team with various events, such as the Remembrance Service, the Christmas lights 'switch on', and the Summer Fayre. Well done Peter!

Fallens panels on Station Road
Ron Beadle has reported that the wooden panels on Station Road are once again down.  In addition to ensuring that this is repaired Ron has asked officers to contact the owners to look for a permanent solution to secure the site.  Ron says: ‘The proximity of the site to the East Coast Main Line means ongoing issues present a real danger.’
