Why should you choose the Royal Drak MTB & Trail Run???

(30 March 2019)
A sundowner dop
Following the financial year end and the accompanying fit of despair (2018 financial results weren’t great…) I found myself questioning a few things….

One of the questions was – why do events? I mean aren’t they just an added expense and a big hack– for the organizers AND participants??

I grumpily contemplated this over a couple of glasses of hand crafted Rooinek Cherry Gin, and it dawned on me that events actually call us out to be better than our everyday selves, and that is actually pretty worthwhile.

So now why should you choose our next event – The Royal Drak MTB & Trail Run Challenge taking place 30 March 2019?

This might be worth exploring over the next couple of weeks…..
Parents and kids having fun
Our best reason for choosing the Royal Drak is simply that it is good for your family

Everything about it is set up for families:

The Races

•    5km Trail Run

1st few times we did the Royal Drak it included a tough 50k MTB route.  It was a killer but everyone who did it felt an amazing sense of accomplishment and were super chuffed with themselves afterwards.
This year we want to make this sense of accomplishment available for kids – to include a challenge that is tough, but possible with a bit of vasbyt – enter the  5km trail run

•    10km Trail Run

For older kids who can do 5kms without thinking this is an awesome opportunity to extend themselves on a beautiful route that offers flowing tracks, without any hectic climbs

•    20km Trail Run

For the gazelle’s of all ages, there is the most beautiful 20km trail run.  Starting in the valley and climbing to the ridges that overlook the Drakensberg’s spectacular Amphitheatre, the route covers 20 (okay maybe 22) km of pristine single track.  The downhill finish is an awesome highlight.

Confidence boost

•    10km MTB ride

Last year I completely blown away when my 4 year old nephew did this with his Dad – it wasn’t easy by any means – but it boosted his confidence for the whole year!

This route is actually great for ages, and parents can run along with their kids (and we will come get you if you have to bail out at any stage!)

•    30km MTB Ride

This is a proper challenge for younger riders (and some of us office jockeys too) but scenic and exciting enough for seasoned cyclists – an awesome opportunity to get out with your kids (or your less MTB savvy spouse or mates) and not feel like you are missing out on the real riding!  The route has berms, switch backs, flowing single track and a 4km downhill finish that will blow your mind!

Royal Drak is also a great event for those parents like Michael McIntyre who might be feeling overwhelmed and need a little time out from their kids.  We can provide that (without the help of Calpol and Nurofen) with the brilliant Kids Zone, staffed by the teachers at Royal Drakensberg Primary School.
Kids can be checked in for the morning while Mom and Dad ride or run – guilt free in the knowledge that your kids are well cared for and thoroughly entertained!
