We can't help but use some cheesy valentine themes because we are excited to share new resources we adore, student employment news we are crazy about and programs that will give you all the feels. Please read on!
 

COMING IN FEBRUARY: NEW SELFIE STUDIO!

The Career Center will soon offer a selfie studio where students, faculty and staff can take a stellar headshot for their LinkedIn profile and social media accounts. The studio is supplied with professional lighting and equipment made possible by the generous sponsorship of Columbia Safety and Supply.  

Users can easily adjust the lighting levels, take as many photos as they wish, edit their chosen portrait and send it to themselves directly from the studio. 

The Selfie Studio will be available on a drop-in basis when the Career Center is open, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm, weekdays. Visit our website for more details!



SERVICES OVERVIEW


The MU Career Center will be available Spring 2022 in-person and online for:

  • Career Specialist consultations: Our trained career peers can help with career and major exploration, resume reviews, interview preparation and much more! We are available for drop-ins and appointments M-F from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. when classes are in session. See our website

We are only offering online options for:

  • Career Counseling: Students needing more in-depth or ongoing support may schedule an appointment with a career counselor. Due to counseling licensure restrictions, online career counseling can only be offered to individuals residing within the state of Missouri.


REQUESTS FOR ASSIGNMENTS & PRESENTATIONS


If you are interested in having us provide a presentation to your class or would like your students to complete an assignment:

  • Open the Request for Classes and Groups page
  • Review options on the Presentations, Assignments and Recommended Combinations button 
  • Click on the Submit Request Form button

We ask that you please give us at least two weeks’ notice for all requests and be as flexible as possible with your due dates.


FACULTY/STAFF CONSULTATIONS


Not sure what kinds of assignments or activities might be best for your class or group? Simply email us to arrange a consultation!

Keep your Student Employees Engaged!

A great way to keep student employees invested in their work is to provide opportunities for gaining skills that are relevant to the success of your workplaces and their future goals.The learning management system offered by UM System Learning and Development, Percipio, has thousands of courses, books, videos and learning channels that provide opportunities to earn certifications and digital badges that your student employees can add to their LinkedIn profiles and social media platforms. Topics on communication, diversity and inclusion, customer service, time management, and problem solving are just a few examples of training available to you and your student employees on Percipio!

MU Career Development Network Sessions Spring 2022

This spring, the MU Career Center will offer training sessions as part of the MU Career Development Network. Join us to learn about the newest updates on career development and career services at MU!  
  • Monday, February 14: Career Exploration: Learn to Love the Journey
  • Tuesday, February 15: Career Readiness: Embracing Tips & Tools to Help Students Crush It
  • Wednesday, February 16: CliftonStrengths for Career Exploration: Helping Students Fall in Love with their Strengths
All sessions will be held on Zoom from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and will include a 60-minute interactive learning session followed by 30 minutes of consultation with the presenters.

Jumpstart is hiring for spring semester!
 
Jumpstart is an early childhood program that matches college students with preschool children with limited resources in our local community. Students serve as Jumpstart tutors, building children's language, literacy and social emotional skills to help prepare them for kindergarten. Jumpstart is offered as a work-study job paying $13.15 per hour, OR course credit, earning 6 credit hours towards graduation. Jumpstart Tutors are also AmeriCorps members, which provides a $1,340 award at the end of the school year. Jumpstart requires availability on both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Please contact Bethany James at jamesbet@missouri.edu to learn more and apply!
