Your Career Center colleagues are pleased to share some exciting new resources for faculty, staff and students! In the midst of COVID, we understand how important it is to provide career information online and have worked diligently to create multimedia and visually engaging content to fully engage users. We also have news about opportunities to celebrate our MU student employees and are proud to highlight our headline-making tutoring program, A Way With Words And Numbers.

While the pandemic has brought tremendous challenges, the Career Center staff also sees this as an opportunity to enhance the way in which we serve students, faculty, staff and employers.

Please stay healthy and safe this autumn season!

It is easy to get started! Just click on the submission link: https://tinyurl.com/employeeshoutout
  • You will be asked to share contact information and no more than two sentences of why you want to recognize your student employee. Think concise and meaningful.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and a few students will be showcased each month. Please send questions to Amanda Purchase Roberts, purchaserobertsa@missouri.edu.

A series of sessions is in development to provide resources and support for supervisors of student employees. The series will connect to the Employee Development Timeline (shared below). For nearly 25 years, the Career Center has sponsored the A Way With Words and Numbers (AWWWN) which is a non-profit program that teams undergraduate students from Mizzou with local children to improve their struggling literacy and math skills. It's one of many experiential learning opportunities that

This is vitally important in the COVID era when students are attempting distance learning. Free tutoring  can be a critical resource to children and parents. Last year, 450 children in the Columbia community received  6,131 hours of direct intervention from A Way With Words & Numbers tutors.

The program continued to thrive despite global circumstances revolving the pandemic. After recognizing the larger need for individualized tutoring, AWWWN accepted parent requests from families not currently enrolled in Columbia Public Schools.
