This April we are showering you with news: a retirement announcement from our Director, Rob McDaniels, opportunities to celebrate MU student employees, featured resources in support of Pride Month, and a brand new spotlight on career readiness. Please read on!
Rob McDaniels has been part of Mizzou community for 36 years, all of those spent in the MU Career Center in a variety of positions. Since 2014, Rob has served as the Director and he recently announced his retirement occurring this June.
For Rob, his personal and professional lives have always been intertwined. "I met my wife and had two girls while at the University. Additionally, the staff and students became my work family. The people (staff, students and faculty) made the environment a wonderful place to work."
Rob feels that his career has been more of a calling than a job. "The Career Center has helped thousands of students find their way as they navigate life. It is always fulfilling to hear about their successes."
As for his retirement plans, Rob plans to keep working, but is still exploring his options. Working with high school students or in a veterinary clinic are at the top of his list.
"I cherish all of the friendships that I developed while at the University and I will especially miss my work family." And the Career Center staff feels the same way about him. Rob, we are so grateful for your leadership and campus contributions and wish you the very best in this new adventure!

MU Pride Month Resources
The MU Career Center is committed to supporting and advocating for LGBTQ students. We recognize that there are many questions and concerns that members of the LGBTQ community have regarding career development and the workforce.
To best assist students, we developed an LGBTQ student web pageon Mizzou Career Tools to help answer questions and recommend advice to help students thrive in their career planning and professional life. The page includes:
Campus and community support and wellness resources
Information and company rankings on inclusive employers
Networking tools for career advisement and mentorship
Videos and blogs that explore identity in the job search and workplace
In addition, Mizzou Career Tools features a total of 12 student affinity pages (under the About Me tab) with specific career advice and resources for unique student populations. We encourage you to explore these pages and share these online resources with students.
This Spring, we created career readiness guides for each class year that offer simple, practical steps students can take to shape their career development journey.
To become more career ready, we don’t want students to just skim the information – they should act on the recommendations!
The Career Center will be hosting a Career Development Network training series this summer! We are finalizing dates for June and will have details online and in the next May newsletter. Get ready to delve into career conversations and resources!
