Crokicurl in Gull Lake

Crokicurl is up and running at the Little Green on the Prairie Park.  The outdoor Cockicurl game was set up as an activity for the Winterfest Hockeyday Event that took place during SWT Hockey Week in Gull Lake.  The game will be set up in the park for as long as the weather permits.

The Rules:

• The game is played with two teams. Each team is composed of 1-2 players. Teams of 1 play from opposing quadrants. For teams of 2, players from the same team play from opposing quadrants. Each player is limited to 1 quadrant. Each team has 4 rocks of the same colour.

• A crokicurl shot is accomplished by firmly sliding a rock onto the playing surface, releasing before the halfway point of the starting line. The rock may be played from any point within the assigned quadrant. Players are permitted to place their feet against the side rail while shooting the rock.

• The first player will try to score 20 points with their shot. If the rock successfully lands completely within the button it is removed and set aside to count as 20 points at the end of the round.

• Subsequent shots attempt to remove an opponent rock from the playing surface unless there are no rocks on the playing surface. If the rock fails to make contact with an opponent rock, the rock is removed from the game. At the same time, each player attempts to make a 20 point shot difficult for the opposing team.

• Whenever possible, each player seeks to score 20 points by shooting a rock into the center button.

• No player may enter the coloured point rings during gameplay until all rocks have been played by both teams and scoring is being determined. The exception to this is when a team scores 20 points with their rock entering the button.

• Players may not change quadrants during a round.

• Play proceeds in a clockwise fashion, alternating each team and player.

• A rock that lands more than halfway over the outer edge of the starting line will be removed from gameplay.

• Scoring occurs after all rocks have been played. Teams play to a pre-determined score. The player or team with the higher score wins the round. The winner of the match is determined by the team who wins the most rounds, best of 1, 3, 5, 7, etc.

Clairbank 4-H Club Report

Submitted by Casey Carlson

Yay! A new year of 4-H fun!!  We had our first general meeting Oct. 21, 2018. This year we have 22 members in Light Horse, Beef, Crafts, Woodworking and Car Care. The Bucheler, Emms, Haubrich, Hughes and Sloan families are five new families to our club this year!  The Carlson, Hayne, Leppa, Myers, Swan, and Toney kids are back for another year. We elected a new executive for all the club jobs and went over the rules of being in 4-H and planned lots of fun activities. We were fortunate enough to get a grant from FCC and Crescent Point.

This year we have volunteered at the Lyceum Theatre,  and sold baked goods, crafts and wood projects for the Gull Lake Craft Fair. We decorated at Christmas Cove, and we got to go to the Corn Ways Corn Maze.  Last spring, our club planted potatoes and this fall we dug and donated the potatoes. Our members attended the Remembrance Day Ceremony. For our Christmas Party we had fun skating at the Tompkins Rink and had a Christmas “sock exchange”. There was a 4-H Swim Day in Swift Current Jan. 13.

Upcoming events include:  Sr. Boys Curling Jan. 27, helping at the pancake breakfast/selling lunch at Hockey Day in Saskatchewan  in Gull Lake Jan. 20, Public Speaking March 17, and 4-H Ski Day March 2. Various project meetings are also being held. Our next General Meeting will be Feb. 10 with fun curling after.

Here is an affordable investment in the town of Gull Lake. The building has 3 suites that rent for $900 each and include all utilities plus internet, which makes it very desirable for renters. The building is located on a main street so close to all businesses. It is also beside a park. The block construction is very solid and with a little TLC could have a nice curb appeal. A 24 x 32 storage area in the back could easily be made into another suite. The back also provides 3 electrical parking spaces for the tenants. Check out the return on your money and call me for a personal showing soon. Heat eq $185/mth. No gas line encroachment.
