I hope that you are enjoying the summer weather. I thought that it would be timely to bring you up-to-date with where things are at the Centre.
As you will have noticed, a rota of Trustees has taken over the day-to-day running of the Centre, with the support of the wonderful team of volunteers. Our overriding priority has been to be able to safely open the Centre again and to offer a full range of therapies, support groups and activities. It has been great to see friends being reunited face-to-face again after such a long period, and benefiting from what the service has on offer.
Obviously given the COVID pandemic, managing risks to health is a top priority for us. We received donations from ARM/Cambridge Community Foundation and others, to ensure that everyone could be welcomed back to the Centre with confidence. However, this period had a significant impact on our income and we had to make the very difficult decision to make the position of Centre Manager redundant. We are all very grateful for Azra's hard work over recent years.
You all know, better than anyone, of the distress and difficulties posed by the last two years. The need for the Centre is greater than ever. We are now looking forward, ensuring we can continue to provide the best support for local families facing cancer.
We have recruited two new Trustees: Lucy Sales who has a corporate background, and Julia Smith who many of you will know as one of our reflexologists but who also has fundraising experience. We now recognise that we need to do more to raise money to support our free service, so we are putting in place a fundraising strategy. We are also extremely fortunate to have been adopted by Issured, who will provide specialist marketing and media advice to take this plan forward.
Our ambition is:
- To continue and expand our current service. We would love your feedback on what you like about what we offer, and also what you would like to see developed e.g. a writing group has been suggested. Please contact us by email or phone with your ideas, or come and tell us at our Coffee Morning at 11am on 19th July!
- To increase the service to late opening on Wednesdays to allow students and people at work to benefit from therapy
- To review the café and to expand the menu to include some delicious healthy options.
Obviously to do these things we are going to have to work hard to raise the necessary funds. If you have any leads that you think would be helpful, Julia would love to hear from you.
