New Pure DSD Release

Double Album, Pure DSD

This is a Pure DSD release. Recorded to Stereo and 5 Channel DSD 256.

A Double Album

Bach’s Six Sonata cycle for violin and harpsichord ranks among the best examples of the Baroque Trio Sonata repertoire. Unlike common practice, both instruments participate equally in the unfolding of the thematic-motivic material and the keyboard part is almost entirely specified by Bach. Andoni Mercero’s warm and silvery timbre shines while Alfonso Sebastián’s skillfully manages to bring superb ensemble playing, both highlighting the majesty of these works. Eudora Records’ audiophile engineering and the warm and immersive acoustics of the San Miguel Church, in Daroca (Zaragoza, Spain), allow the textures to blossom with its exquisite sound.

Andoni Mercero has always been very active in the field of chamber music, both with the violin and the viola, and has been a member of several groups such as the Casals Quartet or Mensa Harmonica. He is currently director of the Musica Boscareccia group, with whom he has recently recorded a CD dedicated to the work of Francesco Corselli. He has performed as a soloist with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Orquesta Sinfónica de Burgos, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Camerata Strumentale di Prato (Italy) and Mantua Chamber Orchestra (Italy).

Alfonso Sebastián Alegre studied piano and harpsichord at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Zaragoza. He continued his training in at the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he specialized in fortepiano and studies of orchestral conducting. He is a laureate in the modality of harpsichord and organ at the Concurso de Juventudes Musicales de España the Musical. Currently, and since 1999, Alfonso Sebastián is Professor of harpsichord and basso continuo at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Salamanca.

New DSD Release

Double Album

This album is available exclusively in DSD 64, DSD 128, and DXD. It is not available on SACD.

Two Contrasting Sides of Music-Making

On the first CD we perform our core repertoire of Italian and Swedish Baroque music, but Barokkbandið Brák also seeks to expand the repertoire for historical instruments by commissioning new works by up and coming Icelandic composers. The second CD showcases new Icelandic music written specially for the ensemble. All of these works share the same sound world as all the music is performed on historical instruments from the baroque era.

Inspired By Poetry

Vintersong (Winter Song) is Daniel Sæther's second solo album with new music for countertenor and baroque instruments. The release contains music by the contemporary composers Knut Vaage, Herman Vogt and Kjell Mørk Karlsen, and the album's title is taken from the contemporary poet Hanne Bramness' collection of poems of the same name, which also forms the textual basis for Vaage's work.

Gabor Varga Jazz Trio ‘Keepin it Cool’

Cool Jazz. A word and a feeling, too. Depending on time and place it can mean different things for people, but for us, it is the dominant jazz style of the 50’s. If something is “cool”, then it is easy-going, spontaneous, smooth, elegant, ageless and ethereal, though deep. This album was created this way. Two years later we recorded a parallel album with the same concept. We call it "Up Jazz". It's like a little brother of the Cool Jazz. It is easy-going, spontaneous, smooth, elegant, ageless and ethereal, though deep.
- Gabor Varga

New Pure DSD Release

This is a Pure DSD release. Recorded to Stereo DSD 256.
This album is available exclusively in DSD and is not available on SACD.

What Is Beauty?

“When listening to Johann Sebastian Bach, we immediately ask: is it possible for beauty to be expressed so simply? With just a few notes played in succession? Sergei Rachmaninoff’s work is an exploration of the sadness inherent in the key of C sharp minor. The works of Franz Liszt and Frédéric Chopin express the inexpressible depths of the soul and lay bare the most personal emotions. Liszt’s poetry is astonishing, and Chopin’s lyricism captivating. Ludwig van Beethoven and Claude Debussy reflect on the mysterious light of the moon with music of the same title but composed from different perspectives. These pieces, familiar to music-loving audiences, are different forms of reflection on beauty, revealing the hidden musical patterns that impress upon us the eternal uniqueness of music.”
- Misi Boros, Jolan Orban, Janos Boros

Schubert’s Sign-Off

Schubert’s three piano sonatas (19-21), D 958, 959 and 960, were written in the last years of the composer’s life. They are today considered some of the most important works in the piano repertoire. Their individual, unmistakably original style is manifested in their cyclical construction and in a tonal universe reminiscent of the compactness of chamber music. The musical contents construct and exist in their own world. They testify both to their own origins and purpose and to the unique structural constellation of the cognitive-conscious world. This music comes from the very depths of the human soul.
