LOCAL NEWS IN REVIEW
RED CROSS BLOOD DONATION RESTRICTIONS - EASED
New Zealand, followed closely by the United Kingdom, have eased their restrictions on gay men giving blood, both down to 3-month deferral. There is now pressure on the remaining countries which have much higher deferral periods, like a number of countries in the Oceania region, to review their blood donation policies and follow suit.

COOK ISLANDS - PRIDE EVENT

WORLD LGBTI NEWS IN REVIEW
SWITZERLAND - SAME-SEX MARRIAGE LEGALISED
A bill under debate since 2013 has passed the lower house (national assembly) [136 for; 48 against] and the upper house (council of states) [24 for; 11 against] of Switzerland's parliament to legalise same-sex marriage and make the gender on trans passports easier to change. A constitutional referendum to allow a final say by the swizz people has been foreshadowed, but with 82 percent of the nation in support of LGBTI rights, the result will likely be a reaffirmation of the newly passed law.

HUNGARY - BANS SAME-SEX ADOPTION
After just having banned birth certificate changes for trans people, the Hungary parliament, under right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban, is now re-asserting the definition of a family to only apply to those with a mother and father, thereby banning LGBTI adoptions. The Hungarian Constitution has also been amended to state that the nation "protects self-identity of the children's sex by birth", although the impact of this anti-trans amendment is not immediately clear.

BHUTAN - HOMOSEXUALITY LEGALISED
A joint sitting of both houses of Bhutan's parliament has voted to repeal its criminal sanctions against homosexuality [Penal Code, s213 & s214], allowing the legalisation of homosexuality in that country when royal ascent is given.
