Introducing '19 WCS Speaker Jim Coffey  from Davidson, Quebec.
Jim's whitewater journey started as a “summer camp brat” from the age of 6.  He took “one year off” from university to find “fame and fortune” in the paddling industry and has never looked back (despite fortune remaining elusive).  He is the director of Esprit Whitewater which provides rafting, canoeing, kayaking and rescue training in Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica.
From all the people that I met on/off the river, Jim's one of the very best. His integrity is impeccable, skills formidable, and he's always willing to help.
Paddling destinations like Mexico and Costa Rica have been popular for whitewater kayaker for decades.  It has always been relatively easy to fly with a kayak but virtually impossible with a canoe.  Jim wanted to put a change to that and a combination of bad fortune, opportunity, determination  and adventure has led to the exploration of countless rivers in Latin America by Solo Whitewater Canoe.
Just getting to the rivers proved to be a part part of the adventure.  Thousands of kilometers driving from his home in Canada, 7 border crossings (of varying degrees of sketchiness), tropical storms, spectacular vistas, wild animals, friendly local people all contribute to the eventual goal of Paddling In Paradise.
Join Jim as he recounts the challenges, rewards and pure magic of paddling in a tropical paradise!
