A Message from The Catholic Crusade

The Church dedicates the month of November to the deceased members of our Church. On November 1st, All Saints Day, we honor those already in Heaven with the Lord. On the following day, November 2nd, All Souls' Day, we remember and pray for the souls of the faithful departed who have not yet entered Heaven; their souls are in a purification state, which we know as Purgatory. Although Purgatory is a place of great suffering, these souls are comforted in knowing that they assured of their salvation and will be with the Lord for all eternity.

We are strongly encouraged by the Church to pray and offer up sacrifices for the SOULS IN PURGATORY throughout the entire month of November. The souls in Purgatory are unable to pray for themselves. Our prayers and sacrifices made on their behalf can expedite their time in Purgatory. In turn, they will surely return the favor by praying for us, who are still in battle with Hell for the salvation of our souls.

Saint Gertrude Chaplet
SITE | VIDEO

The Chaplet of Saint Gertrude is prayed using regular Rosary beads and begins with the same opening prayers as the Rosary. However, instead of praying the Hail Mary prayer on the 50 smaller beads, the St. Gertrude Prayer is prayed instead.

SPECIAL NOTE: It is believed that Jesus appeared to Saint Gertrude with the promise of 1,000 souls being freed from Purgatory each time the St. Gertrude Prayer is prayed. Because the St. Gertrude Prayer is prayed 50 times in this chaplet, it would mean that 50,000 souls are released from Purgatory each time this chaplet is prayed with true devotion.

A Prayer to Avoid Purgatory

A Prayer to Avoid Purgatory was composed by St Joseph Cafasso and is contained in The Life of St Joseph Cafasso by St John Bosco. The prayer pleas for the sufferings of one's life and at the hour of death, along with the merits of Christ's sacred Passion, discharge any debt owed for one's sins, which would otherwise lead to imprisonment in the fires of Purgatory (or Hell).
