Welcome to the first of many Move To Heal South Dakota newsletters!

We're excited to share what we have been up to since our founding date of December 2, 2019. As you can imagine, just a few months after our organization launched we quickly had to pivot in response to a global pandemic. If you're familiar with our
origin story you know that your founder, Sydney Bartunek, is no stranger to adverse situations. Whether pre-COVID mission or present day mission, we continue to be dedicated to transforming the experiences of isolation, loneliness, and despair that rise up daily inside places like healthcare and community settings, by connecting people with the healing power of the arts through movement. We live out our mission by bringing therapeutic dance and yoga sessions focused on the pure joy of movement to heal the mind, body and spirit of participants.

Below is a list to give you an idea of the types of programming we have been involved in over the last several months:
  • December 2019: Sponsored a community Yoga Class in support of the USD Dakotaton
  • February 2020: Launched in-person yoga and dance movement programming at local Sioux Falls senior living facilities
  • April 2020: Launched virtual programming and have been serving weekly chair yoga to the residents at Good Samaritan Society - Prairie Creek ever since
  • June 2020: Hosted our first Outdoor Show in collaboration with several local movement enthusiasts
  • July 2020: Sponsored a community Hip-Hop Class for Downtown Sioux Falls Crazy Days
  • August 2020: Sponsored a community Yoga Class in partnership with the Minnehaha Century Fund during the Sioux Empire Fair
  • September 2020: Served as the Self Care Exhibitor at the 20th Annual Community Response to Child Abuse Conference, a two-day virtual conference with over 600 attendees
  • November 2020: Upcoming breakout session presenter at the 2020 South Dakota Afterschool Conference, a three-day virtual conference
Reflecting on the outreach and impact that Move To Heal South Dakota has been able to make a short amount of time fills our hearts with gratitude and inspires us as we look ahead to 2021. Speaking of a new year.. we couldn't go without sharing a few things you can look forward to with us:
  • Expanded movement and mindfulness programming outreach to diverse populations in Sioux Falls and across South Dakota
  • Arts Exhibit Collaboration at the Washington Pavilion
  • South Dakota Change Network Project
  • First Annual Fundraiser Event: Details coming!

It’s the season for giving and thrilled to announce a partnership with One Act of Kindness! Because of a generous donation from 1OAK, we have the opportunity to give the gift of self-care to 6 individuals.

Professionals from the
Children's Home Society of South Dakota and SD Afterschool Network will be able to attend this years 2nd Annual Yogafest event at no cost.

These are two organizations that we have collaborated with this year and we love the chance to provide a small dose of self-care in support of outstanding work they are doing for children across South Dakota.

Yogafest 2020 promises to be nothing short of amazing! Whether you are attending in person, or from the comfort of your home, you will leave feeling energized, refreshed, and reconnected. The event features nine (9) skilled instructors that will lead you on your yoga journey. And, this year, all paid attendees will receive an experience box valued at $100.00! In-person tickets are sold out but virtual tickets are still available.

In addition, we are thrilled to announce that a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit our 2021 Move To Heal South Dakota Programming! How cool is that?!

2020 Giving Tuesday Campaign

We are joining over 400 nonprofits in South Dakota to participate in South Dakota’s Day of Giving on #GivingTuesday, December 1, 2020. Follow the conversation using #ForSouthDakota on social media!

#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Our financial goal this year is $5,000 and reaching that goal will allow us to cover the instructor expenses for up to four (4) movement sessions a week in 2021!

Learn what we have in store for our 2020 Giving Tuesday Campaign and how you can get involved. Together we art!
