The month of March has been a trying month for our ICSB community. At the beginning of the month a few people tested positive for COVID-19. As time went on, more and more people began testing positive, while others were placed in quarantine as close contacts. The government announced that all lower schools would need to be temporarily closed until at least April 7th, due to the rising number of cases in Hungary. Over 30 people from our staff and others from our community tested positive within the month, with several people being admitted to the hospital with severe symptoms.
Our beloved lower school principal was admitted to the hospital, having trouble breathing, and was found to have developed pneumonia. The hospital did everything within their power to help her, but I am very sad to say that on April 2nd, she passed away. Our principal leaves behind her husband, the ICSB chaplain, as well as two teenage children. Our community is trying to process what has happened and grieving, while still in a nation-wide lockdown, with limited ability to gather together. Please pray for the family as well as our community. These are difficult times for the ICSB family.
There were several other staff members that were hospitalized, but all have since recovered. The number of positive cases within our community has declined and nearly everyone is now recovered, although the numbers are not in decline across the country. The government extended the lockdown until April 19th at the earliest.
We thank you for your continued prayers for our community.
