DR PAT DALY ON LIMERICK'S GREEN CITY REGION AMBITIONS
Limerick's ambitions to become a Green City Region on the Shannon Estuary by 2030 will be achieved through engagement, innovation, resilient urban development and self-sustaining rural communities, writes Dr Pat Daly, Chief Executive, Limerick City and County Council.

BUDGET 2023 BONANZA FOR HOUSING, LOCAL GOVT AND HERITAGE 
Investment in housing, local government and heritage for the year ahead was announced on Budget Day with an overall package of €6.3bn unveiled, including investment of more than €4bn in the Government’s ‘Housing for All’ strategy in 2023.

ERDF SUPPORTS LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO SUPPORT COMMUNITIES
As the European Regional Development Fund continues to provide a steady source of support for communities across the Irish regions for decades, the benefits can be seen through sustainable urban development projects delivered by local authorities.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT AWARDS SHORTLIST FOR 2022
A total of 23 local authorities have been shortlisted for this year’s Excellence in Local Government (ELG) Awards, across 15 categories which will include new additions such as ‘Climate Change’, ‘Communications’ and ‘Diversity & Inclusion’.

E-LEARNING MODULE MAPS OUT DUTY TO PROMOTE EQUALITY
The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission has developed an e-Learning module to help local authorities meet their statutory obligations to eliminate discrimination, promote equality of opportunity and protect the human rights of public sector staff and service users.

 

SOUTH EAST AGENCY ON ENERGY MISSION FOR RURAL REGIONS
Ireland’s dependency on imported fossil fuel is a root cause of high energy costs, harming the economy and the security of our energy supply, the Chair of the Climate Change Advisory Council warned, at the launch of the new South East Energy Agency for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford.

LOCAL AUTHORITIES DELIVER HOUSING ACTION PLANS
The Government’s Housing for All strategy directed that all 31 local authorities develop action plans on their delivery of social and affordable housing over the next five years.  We check out the progress of these plans by several councils nationwide.

DUBLIN'S FIRST ELECTRIC VEHICLE STRATEGY CHARGES AHEAD 
Dublin’s four local authorities have rolled out the capital’s first EV strategy, which will see 1,650 charge points deployed across the city and county by 2025, as part of the delivery of the charge point infrastructure under the Climate Action Plan.
