JTB University’s ConnectED 2021 Los Angeles session was completed last month, with over 60 students joining us! Our enthusiastic L.A. Steering Committee and JTB staff developed engaging content for our Scholars. Surveys indicate that one of the things our students like most is the opportunity to hear personally from our network of volunteer judges, law clerks, attorneys and law students. Some of the topics covered: JTB Alumni-Where Are They Now?, Business Etiquette and Networking, Mentor Meet and Greet, Not All Lawyers Go To Court, The Right To Counsel, and Resume Workshop.
Jonathan D. summarized his experience, shared by many others in our survey: “JTB is a program about lawyers, it’s fun - it’s a program that only lasts a week, but that week you get to meet amazing lawyers and judges, you get to interact with them, and you get to make connections with amazing mentors, I would highly recommend everyone to apply, because your experience will be fun, and you will not regret joining the JTB program.”
Students also studied currently relevant topics such as Civil Rights – Prosecutors and Hate Crimes, Environmental Justice and Vulnerable Communities in L.A., and Asian American Hate Crimes. In addition, they heard from an array of legal professionals with the goal to open their minds to the many paths they might pursue in law.
From Tessa L., “My favorite thing about attending the JTB program was getting to learn about the many types of lawyers in the legal field, whether it be for a non-profit or conglomerate company. I also enjoyed learning about proper networking and etiquette when talking to professionals and meeting the mentors. Participating in the JTB program has given me a deeper perspective into the lives of a diverse group of lawyers and judges that taught me what it will take to thrive in the legal field.”
