  • On 17 March 2019, the Ministry of Finance, represented by the Secretariat General of Taxes (SGT), regretted the EU's decision to include Oman in their blacklist of tax havens, despite the Sultanate's effort to meet EU requirements. The SGT also re-iterated its efforts to continue meeting criteria stipulated in agreements and treaties to enhance cooperation with other countries' tax authorities.

As advisors of choice to Bahrain's insurance sector, we were delighted to host a roundtable for key decision makers across the industry on Sunday 17 March at the Capital Club Bahrain.

Omar Hisham and Zainab Mearaj, advisers to the insurance industry who have worked on engagements with insurance companies in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia as well as Bahrain, led discussions on a number of issues for insurers, reinsurers and brokers.

Omar, who is recognised as a trusted adviser to the insurance industry, said that the companies should develop a consistent approach to industry-wide issues, rather than developing individual stances that may or may not be accepted by the National Bureau of Revenue (NBR), Bahrain’s tax authority.
