Saudi Arabia
Oman and the UAE 
  • On 12 March 2019, the European Union broadened its tax haven blacklist to include the UAE and Oman, despite the objections of some EU member states. The UAE and Oman may face stricter EU transaction controls as a result of being added to the blacklist.
  • On 13 March 2019, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos issued Royal decree 23/2019 promulgating a selective tax law. The tax will be levied at 100% on tobacco (and derivatives), energy drinks, alcoholic beverages and pork and at 50% on soft drinks (excluding non-carbonated drinks). The law comes into effect after 90 days (that is, June 2019).
  • On 13 March 2019, the Secretariat General for Taxation (SGT) announced its participation in the Comex 2019 exhibition taking place on 17-19 March 2019. The SGT will be exhibiting their e-services portal at the exhibition.
