Showing our gratitude during National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 7-13
There are over 200 people who volunteer for our agency, in a wide variety of roles. Some volunteer directly with our youth as drivers. Some work behind the scenes to support our programs and events. We are grateful to them all the time, but during National Volunteer Appreciation Week in April, we make sure we say a sincere thank you to them.
People have different reasons for volunteering with us. Many of them want to make a difference in the lives of children who are facing life challenges. But volunteering with us also offers opportunities to grow in other ways.
One of our most recent volunteers is Ligia Aoyama, pictured below on the right. She has been helping us since fall 2018, when she arrived in Hamilton from Brazil, accompanying her mother who is studying at Mohawk College. She helps prepare for our agency events, such as the Serendipity Auction and our staff appreciation event. Click here to read more about Ligia's story and her experiences as a volunteer with our agency.
Linda McInnis, Development Officer, and Ligia Aoyama, event volunteer, have been preparing beautiful chocolate gifts for us to give to our staff at our upcoming staff recognition event. They swear that they have only sampled one or two, and only for quality control purposes!
Join us for An Evening in Trieste, right here in Hamilton!
Come and enjoy the hospitality of the Sons and Daughters of Italy while raising funds to support the work we do to keep children, youth and families safe and thriving. Did you know that the Sons and Daughters of Italy, Trieste Lodge #4, has been celebrating and promoting Italian heritage in Hamilton since 1921? Or that they are known for their wine tastings and delicious multi-course Italian meals?
This special evening will take place at the downtown banquet hall of the Sons and Daughters of Italy at 499 King St. E. First, there will be a tasting of 4 different wines, led by an experienced guide. This will be followed by a multi-course Italian dinner, with paired wines.
It will be an evening to remember! We are so grateful to the Sons and Daughters of Italy in Hamilton for raising funds to support our work with children and youth in Hamilton. Please join us! And bring your friends!
An important partnership - the Hamilton Council of Catholic Service Organizations
Our organization thrives on partnerships. One of the most important is our alliance with other Catholic service organizations in Hamilton. We meet regularly to determine how we can support each other to provide the best faith-inspired service possible to the people of Hamilton. Led by the Diocese of Hamilton, and chaired by Bishop Douglas Crosby, this alliance of organizations leverages the support of the Catholic community to carry out its mission, and has broad impacts on the health and wellbeing of the whole Hamilton community.
Deadline for receipt of bursary applications is April 30
Every year, we make financial assistance available to our service recipients to help them engage in life-enhancing activities, such as post-secondary education or skills training. We can only do this with the support of generous individuals, families, and businesses who donate funds that literally change lives.
One-time bursaries of $1,000 are awarded to all eligible applicants, as funds allow. And there are two special scholarships available to support multi-year post-secondary education:
the Rose and Ralph Sazio Scholarship
the DiNardo Scholarship.
If you are interested in funding a bursary or scholarship, please click below for additional information, or contact Lisa Hostein at lisa.hostein@hamiltonccas.on.ca, 905-525-2012 x3256.
Every year, we make it possible for children who are in our care and children whose families are receiving services from us to attend summer camp. In 2018, we had over 200 registrations. We send kids to a range of different camps in the area, and try our best to match their interests with the right camp.
You can help to send a kid to summer camp by making a financial contribution to our agency. Click below to find out more or contact Lisa Hostein at 905-525-2012 x3256, lisa.hostein@hamiltonccas.on.ca.
