Avila College News

Dear Avila Community

Happy Friday! Today we celebrate, congratulate and farewell our Year 10 and 11 students. They have worked with persistence, resilience and optimism throughout this year. In the past week they have put into action their learning through exam assessment and the Head Start Program. Each of them deserves to be congratulated for the big and the small achievements. Well done!
On the weekend the Advent Season marks a new, fresh and hope filled beginning to the Church Year. In Advent we await with joy and anticipation the beauty a new baby brings to the world. Surrounded in love and a promise of new beginnings. May our Advent journey be a joyous one.

One more week for our Year 7 to 9 students ahead...don't miss this year's Christmas video to get into the mood!

Happy Learning!

Advent is the beginning of the liturgical calendar. It is a season of spiritual preparation marked by an eager longing for the birth of Our Saviour Jesus Christ. This weekend we commence the season of Advent.  As a faith community Advent is an opportunity to centre our thoughts and prayers and to look forward to the Christmas Season.

This Advent might be an opportunity to share in some Advent activities with your families including such things as: having a family meal together weekly and sharing in each other's company or creating a family advent calendar of events and activities that the family can share in together. Taking part in our Vinnies Christmas food Appeal could also be a way of sharing the Advent spirit.

Faith & Mission

Weekly Prayer

Lord God, we adore you because you have come to us in the past.
You have spoken to us in the Law of Israel.
You have challenged us in the words of the prophets.
You have shown us in Jesus what you are really like.

Lord God, we adore you because you still come to us now.
You come to us through other people and their love and concern for us.
You come to us through men and women who need our help.
You come to us as we worship you with your people.

Lord God, we adore you because you will come to us at the end.
You will be with us at the hour of death.
You will still reign supreme when all human institutions fail.
You will still be God when our history has run its course.

We welcome you, the God who comes.
Come to us now in the power of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Caryl Micklem, "Contemporary Prayers for Public Worship"

Amen

Student of the Term

Today we recognised our Year 10 and 11 Students of the Term. Congratulations to Sarah Patturajan and Paige Jansens Ter Laeck.

This positive, dedicated and friendly student embraces new challenges with a smile. Her can-do attitude encourages those around her and she generously shares her time and expertise to help others. She is kind, compassionate and a good listener who will always offer a hand to anyone in need. She strives for justice in our community and is always willing to help in order to make Avila the best it can be.

Hardworking and committed to her studies, she balances her work so that she can make valued contributions to the school community through clubs and social justice activities. We are delighted to recognise the Year 10 Student of the Term Sarah Patturajan .

Always challenging herself to do better this student demonstrates both vision and daring in her daily school life. All about action and authenticity, she is a person who follows through and does what she says she is going to do. Her contributions to the school community help make it a better place and her friendliness and compassion help create a nicer place.

A role model student, she is always prepared and shows thoughtfulness, insight and maturity in class both onsite and online. A joyful addition to the Avila community we are very pleased to award the Year 11 Student of the Term to Paige Jansens Ter Laeck.
