Wednesday 27 October 2021

Dear Avila Community,

In line with the updated Victorian Roadmap and 80% double dose vaccination milestone, we are delighted that
all students and staff will be returning to onsite learning and teaching next week on Wednesday 3 November.

To ensure a smooth and COVIDSafe return onsite, please read the detailed information below. We have also included some links to useful resources that may assist in the transition for both students and parents.

As our Year 12 students are currently undertaking their exams, we ask that all students be respectfully quiet when onsite. The Gathering Space, Hall and Year 9 area are not accessible due to the examinations in progress.

Once again, we strongly recommend that parents use drop off and pick up places around Mt Waverley to reduce congestion in Charles Street. Options such as the Mt Waverley Library and Community Centre carparks with students entering and departing via the Stephensons Road gate will assist in this endeavour.

We can't wait to see everyone back at Avila.

Warm regards

Dr Michelle Cotter

COVIDSafe Measures

Face Masks

Students will be required to wear a face mask when travelling to and from school, and on the school campus.

In line with the directive to increase fresh air flow into indoor spaces, classroom doors and windows will be open each day. Students are encouraged to wear their jumper and blazer to class if they are worried about being cold. Where possible and practical, outdoor learning areas may also be used.

Avila College's COVIDSafe routine cleaning continues. This involves daily end-of-school-day cleaning, with a particular focus on cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces. Cleaning kits are also located in every classroom so desks can be regularly wiped down.

From November 3, parents are permitted to enter buildings onsite for student pick-up and drop-off, however they must comply with vaccination requirements, check in with the QR code and practise respiratory etiquette and good hand hygiene.
Excursions, Incursions and Co-Curricular Activities

Under the new government directives, a number of intra-school activities are now permitted, including assemblies and other events exclusive to staff and students from Avila College only. Excursions that align with community settings and do not mix different schools are also permitted.

As a result, the school calendar will be reviewed in line with these directives and updated accordingly for the remainder of Term 4. More details will be released as these updates are made. Please Note, the Year 8 Water Safety Day originally scheduled for Wednesday 3 November will not be going ahead. Year 8 face-to-face classes will proceed as normal on this day.
Transport and Amenities

Australiner Bus Service

For students wishing to use the Australiner bus service, old account balances and invoiced amounts for Term 4 will need to be paid in full. A boarding pass will be issued to these passengers and to anyone utilising a credit balance carried forward.

Avila Cafe

The Avila Cafe will reopen at full capacity on Wednesday 3 November. Equipped with eftpos facilities, contactless payment in the cafe is preferred, however cash is still accepted.
VCAA Exams

VCE/VCAL students who wish to speak to their teachers as they revise for exams and final assessments will be doing so remotely.

Students have been sent specific details regarding entry to the examination hub, permitted writing materials and the "walk through" phone drop off system. All examinations will be held in the Year 9 building. This will become the examination hub for the entire examination period. No other year level will have access to this area.

Year 12 students who have more than one examination on a particular day will need to move to the HALL in between exams.
