Avila College News

Keep an eye on...

how you are travelling during these times...
each other...
and how people around you are feeling.

Together we are a community that is going through tough times. Let's hold each other up and be kind to ourselves. Remember to find the light each day and when you can, be the light for each other.

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16

Thank you Avila…we’re doing this together, as best we can, each day.

Dr Michelle Cotter | Principal
Exec. MBA, M.Ed. Leadership, M.Ed. RE, Post Grad. Dip. IT, Post Grad. Dip. Adult Ed., Grad. Dip. RE, B.Ed

Faith & Mission

Weekly Prayer

God of the Pilgrim, Mary MacKillop trusted your guidance in her journey of life and deepened her confidence in your will.

May we renew our trust in your Providence to lead us to hope as we bring our prayer before you.

May we grow in the fullness of your love and the depth of your mystery.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Way, our Truth and our Life.

Flashback Friday
Special Olympic Edition

As we watch the Tokyo Olympics on our screen, let's take a look back at some of our very own Alumnae Olympians and Avila sporting moments.

Valerie Beddoe (Class of 1977)
Valerie McFarlane (married name Beddoe) represented Australia proudly in the LA Olympics in 1984. When Avila competed in the Combined Swimming Sports as a fledgling school in the 1970's, we were always seen as the underdog; the new girl on the block.  But when Val mounted the diving tower, climbing to the very top where no other competitor dared to go, every Avila girl was filled with pride. Val outshone all competitors, magnificently.  Avila girls' screams of joy filled the old Olympic Pool Stadium.

Madeleine Pape (Class of 2001)

Madeleine Pape was the Avila Sports Captain, a keen athlete and member of the Cross Country squad. Madeleine represented Australia in the Women's Athletics 800m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

ABOVE Madeleine is third from the left on the top row of the Cross Country Squad.
Madeleine is on the left of the first row of the Sport and House Captains photo 2001.

BELOW Madeleine is the first on the left.

Emily Whitehead (Class of 2018)

Emily attended Avila College in Year 7 and 8 and is currently competing in the Tokyo Olympics in Artistic Gymnastics.
